you are confusing cause and effect, my little arrogant buddy (im aware of the irony in that). i do not think pac gets insecure because he has what you call family around him, i think he has his "family" around him because he is insecure.

Family in the Philippines frequently extends beyond who you are related to by blood. When my sister visited the Philippines, she had dozens of people who stayed where she stayed, ate meals with her, and followed her around. All of these people referred to her as cousin, sister, or auntie... in reality, only a small fraction of these people were related at all. They just wanted to be part of the giant moving party centered around my sister.

Pacquiao may indeed be insecure (I don't know the guy, so how would I know), but I don't see being surrounded by so many people as being evidence of it. I'm quite certain that this is more related to cultural norms than insecurity. I visited India a couple of years ago and noticed that men frequently hold hands. This has nothing to do with homosexuality, though... in the northwest muslim-majority regions of India, it would be very dangerous to publicly demonstrate homosexuality. Of course, if you apply western cultural norms, then you would assume that all these men are gay and just incredibly brave.

perhaps my writing comes across a bit too cryptic. i do not care whether the 50 people surrounding any man are family or not. my point is that any man that has any 50 people around him with no defined purpose, is fullfilling some psychological need that a well rounded person does not have.

Filos are close back home. Outside the Islands it's sad it is not the case. They adapt the western culture. In the Islands everyone in the town is a member of a larger family not blood family but community. It's culture and pride it's uniquely FILO or maybe brown culture through out the world. This is a good thing Pac is doing there. He is welcoming people into his house, my home is your home, my food is your food.He is a generous guy actually. Most politicians would not even do that.Pac for president.

thats beautiful and all but its a common trait among the more provincial members of any culture. i love many, if i wasnt so fond of the truth, i would be a full on *******. you guys want to brag about how some of the members of pacs possy have even more money than pac and in the next thread im being told how pac does it to help people out. so which is it? does he keep everyone around to help the people that need it, or does he keep them to help the ego that needs it?

from my understanding, Pac hangs with different people when he's in training or when he's in manila or in his hometown.

It's a Filipino thing. Freddie Roach even acknowledged it in an old episode of 24/7 where he said Filipinos are very clingy and that's why Pac sleeps in his 2 bedroom condo with 10+ people instead of his mansion just a few miles away. Surely Latinos and African Americans could understand this thing as they are also known for having large extended families and friends.

that sounds more like an endorsement for neurosis. "clingy" is not how you describe a man comfortable in his own skin. as far as blacks and latinos... and whites for that matter, i thought it was more out of necessity than choice. i havent seen too many of them who make a comfortable living, choosing to live stacked on top of each other.

You make it seem Filipinos (in the Philippines) do better than Americans. Not even close. My uncle is good friends with Pac and his team. The entourage that Pac has that stays in The Pallazzo are Buboy, Bobby, his first trainer who now lives in San Jose, his masseuse, some MP Promotions boxers, and other Team Pac members that are based in LA. When Pac is not in town, these people hold normal blue collar jobs. Only 3-4 people actually live in that condo when Pac is in the Philippines.

I guess you have to be Filipino or have spent time in the Philippines to understand the concept of "barkada". The closest thing I've experienced here in the US that even comes close is a college frat house. That condo where Pac stays is pretty filthy at times and feels like a frat house.

The ignorant just apply the logic: "If we don't do it here in America, it must be wrong..."
