Does Pacquiao need to beat a slick, African-American fighter to prove he is the best?

A fight - and win - over JMM or a "slick African American" would boost Pac's legacy, but it's not like his legacy will be tainted if he retires tomorrow without going there.

Actually, the only slick guy I think he should fight is FMJ. Anyone else would be a waste of time IMHO, because at this point, Pacquiao has nothing to fight for BUT to enhance his legacy more.

"Trying" so hard that they LIED about a 14 day cut off, admitted it was offered, and took a different fight anyway. Then they "tried" again by saying they agreed to everything, implied they agreed to no testing cut off, set up a website, had a conference call, and then were busted on HBO 24/7 as only having agreed to 7. :huh

You are ignorant of the definition of "try". :bart

Manny and Floyd are at the top of the sport and both in the same weight class. Not only should this fight happen, it suppose to happen. This fight determines who's the best of this era. Manny winning all those titles are good and well, but as the years go by his acheivements will always be debated upon because he never fought the best possible opponent. Which so happens to be none other then a slick style African American. Bernard statements are stirring up a lot of controversy now. Imagine if Pac don't fight Floyd, Bernard statement will haunt Manny's name every time it's mentioned. The only thing I think would open the back door so Manny could escape, is Floyd going to jail for some years, which means the fight will never happen. So does Manny need Floyd to secure his legacy? If his other options are Berto, Marquez and Mosley? Then my answer is yes.

He can retire now and he will still be considered as one of the greats who have laced the gloves.

Not to mention that May went up to a weight class he never fought at before and conceded everything to fight Oscar.

The fact is they will never give PBF any respect you would think he was out there beating bums!

Lets be real here who the hell was calling for Pac vs Clottey? NO ONE!!

    Lets look at Manny's opponents:

Clottey coming off a loss! - Was a nobody in the devision.
Margo coming off a devasting loss, then struggled with a bum in Mexico
Oscar coming off a loss! - Agreed to fight at a weight he hadnt fought at in how many years?
Hatton coming off a K.O loss, then gets hurt in his next fight!
Cotto coming off a loss, then controversial win with Clottey

You know that is hardly a stellar line up but no one wants to take anything away from Manny as long as fans are fair you know!

A drug test and a win over Mayweather enhances his legacy (which is what he says he fights for) alot!!

Until that point in my mind and alot of other (less vocal fans) Manny is second in this generation to PBF.

Pac doesn't need anybody else to prove his greatness. It's set in stone and in the digital age the internet. Fighting from now on is just icing on the cake. Do I want him to fight Mayweather? Hell, yes!!! It remains to be seen, considering his various legal problem, if he'll ever find his "urge". Would Marquez be a competitive fight at LW or WW remains to be seen. :deal

You don't want to see the fight.

The only legal problem is the problem of Manny signing a contract that includes drug testing.

    Keep deluding yourself.
