It's interesting that Pacquaio, and his team, have chosen Spence as his next battle. Manny has recently been choosing tough bouts, but in a calculating fashion (which isn't a criticism, by the way). No one expected him to beat Thurman, yet he matched up well with him style-wise, and cleverly picked him when he had been laid off for a while.

Spence has also had a lay off, due to the accident, and is probably rusty again after his last bout. Pac must feel he matches up with him in terms of style. So, do you think Pac is deluded, looking for one last shot at glory, or is he playing this with a calculating eye?

I think he'll come unstuck against Spence, but I applaud him for taking the fight.

I think Manny believes he can withstand Spence's power and try to box to a win. I don't think so if Spence pressures him

    I really don't care.

Why is Spence facing an ageing Pac when he should be facing Crawford?

Is he waiting till Crawford is drawing his pension?

This is another of those "yeah, it'll be good, but why aren't we seeing X face Y" type events?

I'm really starting to lose interest in this sport...and I never thought I'd say that.

The constant ducking, online bickering, money over legacy mentality, is all starting to become really tiresome.

love this “laid off for a while”. Pac has been laid off for 2 years at 43 ffs.

Thurman was coming off a win with a credible opponent as a tuneup fight. Fighters aren’t supposed to look their best on a tuneup, but they’re supposed to be better after the tuneup.

Pac is fighting Spence because as he has always done, he fights the best, specially if he’s getting paid well for it.

Hopefully Manny actually saw something in Spence better than Mikey did.

So Pac tried to cherrypick Crawford and ended up cherrypicking Spence?

BTW, Spence put a one-sided schooling on Danny and showed zero negative effects from the crash.

And you do know that Pac is going to be almost 43 and will have been out for 2 years and a month, right?

    Exactly.

    This is hardly prime Pac.

It's an ageing, rusty, version of the great man.

Don't get me wrong, he's still very, very, capable and by no means a push over.

I just feel like this is a fight that Spence gains little from.

If he wins, which he will be expected to, it's against a well worn Pac years past his best.

If he loses...well, it's against a well work Pac years past his best.

Aside from money, what else does he gain?

The name Manny Pacquiao on his record?

Sorry, but the only fight that has any credibility for Errol Spence jnr is Terence Crawford.

    Anything else is bull****.

Simple equation is that Spence= the biggest money fight for Pacquiao. If he wins he retires in glory. If as likely he loses he goes out with a massive payday.

It’s not just the one time pay check, it’s the notoriety of facing a famous boxer. This is the type of fight that if he wins many casual fans who don’t know or care about fighters being in their prime or not will throw a lot of accolades towards Spence.

It also gives him the upper hand in negotiations with Crawford in a fight that will double in value if the public is rooting him on.

It also puts him on the radar for mega fights like with Canelo. He has been bursting at the seems for 147 and has the height and frame to go up to 160 and maybe 168.

Even though Pac is aging he should still learn from the experience as well and come out a better boxer.

I think Manny's looking for 20-25 million and to ride off into the sunset.

To be fair Spence will have fought 5 of the top 6 in the Rings 147 ranknigs.

But yeah, do we get Spence v Crawf after this? It's over cooked already. Cross promotion can happen at heavyweight so why not here?

Oh, I'm not disputing his record per se, more that the time has now come for the two top guys at 147 to face each other.

    That's it.

Anything else doesn't interest me...and that's sad, because I love the sport not individual fighters.

But, I'm getting fed up with the way the sport works.

In no other sport can the best avoid the best so consistently as they do in boxing.

Imagine, if Nadal has avoided Federer for years, pulling out, making excuses, yet bickering over social media.

Or, if the top basketball teams were able to avoid ever facing each other and instead tried to play mediocre teams from lower leagues.

In any other sport it would be ridiculous, yet it is the norm in boxing.
