Yes considering he beat Winky, he beat Margarito, he beat a lot of good and even some elite fighters, yes. He did lose a few fights but he was champion in multiple weight classes at the same time.

Wrong thread at wrong time but it's still debateable. I do think Paul Williams was better than Hatton and Cotto and they all have similar achievements. I wouldn't be surprised if they all get into the hall of fame as any multiple weightclass champion who was near the top of the P4P ranking should be at least considered.

What would be enough? If we are going by who the best are in the decade then really only Mayweather and Pacquiao should be considered but if we going on the P4P rankings and resume Paul Williams was doing pretty good. He was high up in the P4P ranking and beating everybody at one point.

The Guy was avoided by a lot of fighters .He jumped up a few division to get opportunities. He was a very good action fighter.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "not even close", but wouldn't say absolutely yes, I believe he's on the fringe, but due to his career being cut short...I could see it.

this is so sad. one minute, he's in the midst of a comeback and on the cusp of matching up with one of boxing's premier emerging superstars, and the next minute, he may be permanently paralyzed. what a god damned shame.

What would be enough? If we are going by who the best are in the decade then really only Mayweather and Pacquiao should be considered but if we going on the P4P rankings and resume Paul Williams was doing pretty good. He was high up in the P4P ranking and beating everybody at one point.

Here is his resume of guys he beat.

Sharmba Mitchell (Good fighter, former champ)
Antonio Margarito (Good fighter, former champ and cheat)
Carlos Quintana (Good fighter, current champ)
Verno Phillips (Good fighter, former champ)
    Ronald Wright (ATG fighter)
Sergio Gabriel Martinez (Elite fighter, former champ)
Kermit Cintron (Good fighter, former champ)
    Nobuhiro Ishida (Good fighter)
    Erislandy Lara (Robbery)

Honestly based on his resume alone I could see him getting into the HOF. He accomplished a lot in a short period of time against fighters who are going to continue fighting and who may become champions themselves.

Of course there is more to this than just resume. And he has only really fought 1 ATG fighter. But he has one of the best resumes and fought some of the toughest fighters.

im a huge paul williams fan and it's devastating that we're discussing his career with such finality in light of the tragedy that befell him today, but when we get down to boxing, that's not a HOF resume really. Mitchell was very much on the slide, as well as phillips, and winky, if not too old, was definitely operating with a log jam of ring rust. the cintron fight was a fiasco that cintron was winning before diving out of the ring, idiot style. the lara win shouldnt even be considered a win, and ishida beat james kirkland, a guy who had always been known to be susceptible to that type of loss, and no one else. I can see how some people would believe there were too many asterisks next to some of those wins.
