Does the great Ricardo Lopez 's status suffer because of his lack of top competition, his weight class ,and or the fact that he never ventured up the weights?
Anyone who saw Lopez knows he was one of the best technical punchers ever. He should right up there with the best fly's of all time.

Many call George Dixon one of the best little men of all time ( Bantam ). Yet he never beat a hall of fame opponent ( But fought several of them ), and looks very poor on film. While Dixon was certainly past his best at the time of the filming it is alarming how bad he looked. Lopez was a great puncher, a very patient tactician, and preformed well at an advanced age for a lower weight fighter. His KO wins are very impressive. The IBRO boxing organization, which favors old timers as much as any group, put Lopez in their top ten of all time at flyweight, even though he a straw weight. The IBRO will accept anyone who is willing to pay to become a member ,as such it's ratings/opinions are no more valid ,or credible than any poster here. If a middleweight had never fought at Lhvy and was rated in the top ten at 175lbs by an organization, would it have any legitimacy? George Dixon is irrelevant to this discussion.
With all due respect...I know that many of you know who fought who on the 2nd Tuesday in july of 1934, and the records of everyone involved...But what do you actually know about boxing and how it is done? While I generally agree with most of the assessments made on this board, I wonder why it is that you cannot see that the skills lopez demonstrated consistently translate real well. Personally, I think he beats Carbajal and gonzalez pretty easily.
