Cotto's deal was made public. 3 fights for $15 million each with a $5 million signing bonus. Nice $50 million dollar package for the veteran Cotto. But they will make money because a Canelo clash was inevitable and possibly a rematch and even a GGG vs Cotto fight. So would it be correct to say with Cotto they are safe and wont lose money?

Thats a question you can only ask them At Roc Nation directly. No one on here can speak for them so its kind of pointless to ask a question like that on a forum full of Ward Haters. Its just not practical. Besides the opinions coming from ward haters on this subject is like putting Words in their Mouths. Myself personally they dont reget anyting signing Andre Ward. Jay z Is a Rapper who made his name having his Music videos put out on Channels Like BET and MTV, so i know what his intentions were trying to put Boxing on BET.

Its sort of like when Bellator first started it was on Mtv2, now its upgraded to spike and is seeing viewers increase every show they have. Roc Nation will make Money from the Cotto-Canelo PPV, so i know theyre not worried about anything other then Ward recovering at this Moment. They Know Ward-Kovalev is going to be Huge, and will make money on their "investment" in due time. So you haters need to stop worrying about his Numbers from BET, His Injury which you guys claim is a cop out to not fight KOvalev.. Its you guys who make Ward the most talked about guy on this Forum, so keep it up Guys! Believe it or not You Haters are part of his Fanbase!:hi:

Ward got a signing bonus of a few million that he will not have to pay back.

If they still think that Ward is gonna fight Kovalev, they are stupid and deserve the losses they will have with Ward.

Yes, but it's not 100% on Andre, either. Roc has to look at themselves in the mirror, too. I've played devil's advocate on Ward more than enough, so it's time to point out where Roc messed up here.

    Roc's missteps:

    1) They have no experience building a superstar. Cotto was already big when they signed him. Andre, in some senses, had to start from scratch because of the inactivity. There's still name value there, but the rust has to be knocked off of it to get people invested in Andre again.

    2) They overpaid. Roc was (over)eager to make a splash, and Haymon had shot down their attempts to sign other big U.S. names (Broner, Wilder, etc). Giving Ward the guaranteed money he wanted was great for Ward, but left little wiggle room for Roc to keep him active and afford good opposition. The end result is infrequent fighting against very cheap, very overmatched opposition with comical purse splits. That's a good thing for Andre's career, not so much for the people footing his bill.

    3) They don't have a stable. Without a pipeline of potential opponents, they're going to continue to be at the mercy of other promoters who are going to want more money to face Ward than your typical opponent, and there's a shallower pool to choose from with so many in that weight range a member of PBC, who will not do business with them.

Ultimately, the endgame for Roc is that they were desperate for Ward to fight GGG for two very good reasons. It was a quick way for Ward to get his momentum back because of the hype and ratings GGG generated, and it was a way to protect Cotto, their real cash cow. The single move of targeting Golovkin with Ward solved both of their biggest problems.

The problem is anyone with an ounce of business sense saw through it, and they negotiated poorly. GBP threw Lemieux to Golovkin in exchange for stepping aside and playing ball with Canelo. Roc didn't have anything else to dissuade GGG from continuing to pursue Cotto, and their idea of budging on terms, while progress from the Chad Dawson contract mugging, wasn't nearly good enough to tempt Golovkin to 168.

They really should have pressed for Ward to take short money immediately at 168 instead of 50/50 in late 2016. Win or lose, the hype for the fight alone would've rebuilt Ward's momentum overnight and gotten GGG out of the way of Cotto. They targeted GGG because he was the magic bullet for Roc's problems, but didn't make it worth GGG's while to fix them.

Instead, now they're left in a situation where Andre's in a multi fight deal now he really doesn't seem happy to be in where the endgame (if it works) is a tougher fight against a lower profile, lower paying opponent. Cotto is still in the position of needing to fight GGG or drop his middleweight title should he get past Canelo.

So, yes. I'm sure Roc regrets the signing thus far, but they've done alot to contribute to that. They probably should've been a little concerned when Al didn't make a play to land Ward and gave him up to them so easily, too.
