Ronda is the best out of about 8 fighters in the world in her weight class who fight as a professional cage fighter. For every one Female mma fighter there is 50 + males. The talent pool is very shallow. There is no opponents in female combat sports. Look at this for example at boxrec. There is 21 middleweight professional female boxers in the entire World. The # 10 boxrec ranked female MW in the World has a 1-2 record. The # 5 fighter in the entire world has a 7-6-1 record. If you are a female, have a pulse, and sort of train a little bit you could be a top 10 World ranked fighter . http://boxrec.com/ratings.php?sex=F&division=Middleweight
She's a one trick pony who talks a tough game. On her feet against Cyborg she's toast. Personally i can't see what's so great about a fighter only known for finishing fights by armbar. Nice stat. Nice feat. But not good in a sport like MMA where you have to be multi-faceted. Rousey isn't.
I like Rousey and think she's pretty great at what she does, but I have to go along with Scurla here. The first woman who twigs that she has to keep boxing on the move is surely going to bust Ronda up. In the brief stand-up exchanges she had with Miesha Tate, she did not look very good there.
:huh How is this the same thing? Tyson wasn't knocking everyone out in 91 seconds with the same punch. Rousey is finishing everyone in round 1 with the same move. Tyson went 12 rounds with Tony Tucker a while before facing Spinks, and got rocked in the 1st in his next fight with Bruno before coming back to win in the 5th. That is not the same situation at all as someone finishing every fight and every opponent very very quickly with the exact same hold.
If she loses because someone stops her one move then she's a one trick pony. If she beats everyone throughout her whole career with just one move, she's the best ever. Winning is what's important, not how you do it, especially if it's always a finish.
I watched that fight again, and - yes - Cyborg was in several situations where she would have been vulnerable to an attempted armbar. In watching the Tate-Rousey fight, there were several situations where Rousey was in a position where a good striker (like Cyborg) would have been able to unload on her. If Rousey can get Cyborg on the ground early in the fight, then Rousey has a clear advantage. If Cyborg can keep the fight off the ground, or at least land a few solid blows before taking Rousey to the ground, then Cyborg has the advantage. There's no secret to what their fight gameplan is.
