I was going to make a thread about this. I can't imagine anyone having faster hands for a 40+ in boxing history. It's just amazing. His legs are gone. His reflexes aren't as good but his hands are still so fast.
Although Manny is fast he can't throw 5 6 punch combos at an opponent and be accurate with them ..I have yet to see that from the Pac Man !!
I agree, it's hands down Gamboa. Even Larry Merchant said while commentating a Gamboa fight that Gamboa had the fastest hands he's ever seen.
BTW, watching his highlight videos, Roy Jones wasn't about speed, he wasn't exceptionally quick with his punches. He was exceptionally good at closing the range and firing WHILE getting in range, not setting but firing off the jump, and hitting every powerpunch he could. His eye for the situation, luring the other fighter into his moves and hitting at will, was exceptional.
Wait till someone makes a highlight video of the Lacy fight. You're not going to believe some of the sh*t you see. 5 straight left hooks. Whithering upper cuts and hooks. You will swear this is prime RJ in terms of hand speed.
I can't wait to watch this in good quality. I was watching the stream and I would see Lacy Backing roy up on the ropes, then I'd heard these "FFFF", "FFFFPP" bursts, and the next frame I see is of Lacy stumbling like a ****** in the other corner.
Meldrick Taylor and Sugar ray Leonard are fast like Calzaghe is fast, they set up and wing little tiny shots at great speed. Roy flies in with a huge KO punch at incredible speed, like Zab does as well. There's no actual way of telling whose faster but you have to take into account how they do it.
when your competition is ODLH, David Diaz, Hatton for Pac and Sheika, Calzaghe, and a shot to pieces Lacy...its hard to say.
