Can't really say.

He wasn't hit cleanly very often and so his chin went untested.

Regardless of what Zakman might tell you, a fighter doesn't need any kind of chin if no-one can ever land on it.

And if Roy had retired after Ruiz (essentially undefeated ) with titles from 160 -heavy, no-one would be asking anything about his chin.

Tarver 's punch might have been lucky but Roy has not risked his chin since.

So to answer your question: I don't know.

 

i dont think RJJ has a granite chin,but its not glass either...he has a solid chin,i think his age and the style in which he fights are more contributing factors to his KO loses than his chin...

 

Roid was fighting so many mismatches that he got careless and somewhat out of shape. Still, his chin is not made of iron.

If a guy has a glass chin it would have been exposed much earlier in the career. You cant go 15 years and almost 50 and never being hurt in a fight to having a glass chin.

Jones fought better fighters then Tarver and Johnson, and was never hurt in a fight. Problem with Jones is that he was always able to to pull back on shots, and he was so fast that he could jump in land his shot and be gone before the return. If you watch the knockout to Tarver you will see that Jones jumped in with a hook and got caught. It was a perfect shot at the perfect time. The Johnson thing was almost a hangover. Jones should have took some time and a easy fight before his fight with Johnson.

 

As much as I'd hate to say it.. yes.. I think he does have a glassjaw. His speed and reflexes did play a big part in his success and when he lost that edge.. he was there to be hit with much cleaner blows. Tarver KOed him with one shot, and while Johnson had a bit more trouble putting Jones away he's not a one punch knockout kinda guy and everytime he hit Jones with a good shot Jones reacted horribly. So yeah.. glass.. if you wanna call it shaky that's fine, but no greater than that.

 

The only way Ruiz hurts anyone is if he catches them on the way in as he's stepping into a right hand. That's really it. His hurting Evander Holyfield was completely random. He can't hurt you if you don't end up getting caught on the way in.

I'd say punch for punch Tarver hits harder.

 

if he had a glass chin, he would have lost much more fights than he did. he just got caught with some great shots during the sunset of his career.

 

I'm a big Jones fan, but I do believe that even though Tarver landed that lucky punch that **** was hard as hell on his chin. Also people say Johnson hit Jones on the chin. It was on his temple, IT DIDN'T LOOK HARD AT ALL, BUT WHO KNOWS

 

Debilitating effects of losing weight was the cause of the first knock out loss, Roy got away with a knock down in his career against Lou De Valle, it was ruled a slip but I thought he was buzzed. I don't think his chin was great he could take a good punch but he had never got caught, so who could really say.

 

Anyone can get knocked out if they do not see the punch coming and it lands within the "sweet spot" as we call it.

That's another reason why I rate him at glass. His punch resistance didn't seem very good at all..
