Does Schmeling's cracked vertebrae diminish Louis's victory over him?

Yep, if a fighter takes an illegal position which makes it much more difficult for his opponent to hit him he can't really complain of a foul. Concerning at least Louis most seem to agree with me.

I will look up the details on this when I am not drunk.

There was a bit of a David Haye toe moment there.

For the most part both fighters were very gracious losers.

I see what you did there.

I have heard the theory that Louis loaded the gloves, because it it not possible to hit someone of about equal size and weight hard enough to crack vertebrae. I don't believe it and go one step further- the injuries were probably greatly exaggerated, like Willard's against Dempsey. Schmeling got his ass kicked, fought about a year later, and then became a paratrooper. Nothing to me that indicates cracked vertebrae.

I could be wrong but I don't believe Louis loaded the gloves, and am certainly not taking the German government circa 1938s word for it.

No the hype, premise, coming out of Louis's character when against the only fighter that beat him and the way Louis wrecked a legitimate world class fighter overshadows anything such as a punch that hit him....the fight was an annihilation and erased any doubts of Louis not being the man.

The fact that Louis hit another man so hard as to fracture his vertebrate is as impressive as Dempsey breaking Willard's ribs over 3 rds, Marciano fracturing LaStarza's arms, Cuevas breaking Backus eye socket and other legendary punchers

If you reread my post carefully, it says that my German *was* Rusty. He's since changed his name, although his opponents still call him Rusty to get under his skin.

Does Schmeling hitting Louis after the bell in their first fight diminish his win?

It was during the action foul, but Schmeling turned his back if memory serves, failing to protect himself at all times. Louis decided to nail him, those at ring side recall Schmeling screaming from the blow. Did it alter the result? Not likely. Was it a foul? Technically speaking yes but because Schmeling turned his back and it happened at a moment of action, I’d only give a Louis warming for it, had Schmeling made it out of the round.

In the first fight, Joe Louis landed a mean low blow late in the fight before he stopped. Schmeling was clearly hurt from it. When a bad foul happens when one guy is one the way out, I tend to think it was un-purpose.

Film has no agenda Mcvey, I suggest you watch it.

You'd give him a warming?lol You think it was unpurpose?lol

Schmeling hit Louis after the bell in their first fight, do you think he did it unpurpose? Should he have been warmed? Thanks for the laugh!
