IMO I don't think it as worked, not for excitement anyway. Putting top fighters against novices or journeymen in the first round, in order to pit the most experienced against each other for semi and final, just results in them boxing and conserving energy for the better fighters in the later rounds, thus a slow warm up.
I'm not sure either. The first 4 fights were all fairly one sided which I'd imagine leads to the casual fans they are looking to attract losing attention.
I'm sure they thought the lesser fighters will get stopped by the seeds, but they are coasting through. They should offer £5k for a stoppage, or £5k for stoppage of the night may make it more casual fan friendly. Id like to see the final with 5 rounds too.
It's interesting to watch pan out as it is. :conf I don't think it would necessarily work out perfectly every time no matter how the seeding was done.
Adding any cash incentives for stoppage wins would make a lot of the fights even more scrappy. Seeding is needed when they depth isn't there like last tuesday's one. It can lead to quite a few dull early fights though.
good ideas, in the ultimate fighter series, they get money for stopages it works there, the 5 minute round would not be aproved by the BBB of C on safety grounds
For me when you have novices v novices in the first round they are more entertaining and really go for it big time, when you have top fighters against each other in the first round they work at a much faster pace and put it more on the line
Seeding was an awful idea!!! Hibbert and Graham were both outclassed, but Hibbert v Graham in a quarter final would have been a right little tear up! Seeding doesn't work in Prizefighter!!!!
But then that would mean that one of Hibbert or Graham would earn twice as much as say McIntyre or Lynes which clearly wouldn't be fair.
The thing I have against Prizefighter is that there's never been a great one. There's been good and watchable ones, but there's never been one that's made me think "y'know, thank god for Prizefighter". There's never been a three round war that keeps you on your feet. There's never been anything on the line, I think that's what it's missing.
I don't understand what you mean! It would only mean that if McIntyre or Lynes didn't win their respective fights against who ever?! Luck of the draw isn't it!
Tbh, I'm not sure Prizefighter itself works. It's all to chaotic and hectic for me, almost not 'proper' boxing. I'd much rather see four 5 round fights on say a Friday. A week later, the winners meet in another 5 rounder, with the final held a week later over say 7 rounds. An 8 man tourney over 3 weeks is more appealing to me than 1 night of heavy swinging and gassing by the semis
