Does size count even just a little bit?

If you were living in the 30's you might use Willard as a precedent, and he won against Johnson in the 26th round. It's actually longest lasting HW lineal title fight since John L Sullivan's days I believe.

Look at the sparring partners Louis used for the Carnera match. There were plenty of SHW boxers out there to choose from.

It is interesting that the top trainers of the day weren't scouting those types.

No, Frazier would have been a better candidate.

How do you know they weren't scouting those types?

We know why that is. The right drugs had not been discovered yet. That is the short answer.

It is my hunch that boxing was a sport where a giant was compromised or prevented from reaching a physical potential under traditional methods where as smaller men were able to easier meet their full physical boxing potential at a natural optimal weight.

The bigger they are the less boxing you see. A lot of artificially enhanced giants wearing the other down. Holding.

Holding is the issue. Nothing else.

Chisora vs Whyte had no holding and that was a foty contender.

I don't know, you mentioned someone Byrd didn't do bad against, I mentioned someone Wlad didn't do bad against.

You brought Wlad and Marciano into the discussion, what's that got to do with Holmes/Spinks?

You was on about beating Father Time, Wlad was the first past prime champ I could think of. Rocky was the first sub 200 HW I thought of, well second to Dempsey but I pick Dempsey prime for prime over Wlad anyways.

Point being that normally a fighter would have to extremely past his best to not be favoured over someone he's so much bigger than. In the previous fight Holmes was 50 pounds heavier than Spinks so being past his best is still a huge obstacle to overcome.

Better question to answer, who do you believe would win in the Wlad of the Fury fight and the Spinks of the Holmes fight?

50 pounds heavier? Where do you get that from?
