To date both guys have done everything they have been asked to do which is beat the guys put up against. Mikey asked for this fight and Spence took it because it is the biggest fight out there at this moment and Keith Thurman develops an injury every time Spence’s Name is mentioned, whilst Shawn Porter does not really fancy it. The winner which shall be the Truth Erroll Spence Jr deserves the credit. People talk about the size difference but in my opinion the real difference is Spence’s fundamentals and skill sets are better. Mikey is quality and real good but Spence is much better. Mikey has been talking himself up to convince himself and with Spence I get a quiet determined meaness to do a proper demolition job on Mikey.
What about what Sugar Ray Robinson got for losing to Carmen Basliio moving up from welterweight to middleweight. Point at this level of the sport Credit should be given these guys are live underdogs!
People always get some degree of credit for a stay-busy showcase fight when they look stellar. That's exactly what this is. Spence is making his biggest money fight to date and witnessing brutal beatings are always fun. Spence's IBF mandatory rankings were utterly depressing to be honest, Garcia is a far more fun option. Romans packed the Colosseum to witness slaughters , we should enjoy this as well. Then on to a unification bout - imagine it's Porter.
Spence vs a pre Golovkin Brook probably plays out differently from what I saw in the fight. Brook seemed to hurt Spence a couple times, and was winning some rounds.
If he stops him I'll be impressed, Mikey has skills. I favor Spence by decision. Brook was a broken man when he fought him. This is Spence's first real test at world level.
I'm a bit excited about the fight because I really would like to see the smaller underdog pull the upset, and considering Mikey is a lot more technically skilled than Errol Spence there is some kind of slim chance of him actually pulling it off. Outside of that, this fight has the potential to be a one sided stinker with the smaller man getting hurt.
All those guys are Peterson, algeiri level. At least algeiri has a win over provodnikov. Lipinets and Easter has wins over who?
I'm really shocked that people are really thinking Spence is just going to run through Mikey... I mean Spence is good but his best wins are a chopped Brook, who was actually winning, and a shell of himself Peterson... I think Mikey has a great shot here.
Yes, it depends on how the fight plays out. Marquez had a bigger disadvantage vs Floyd, but I gave Floyd credit for that. You could see that Floyd would beat him every time because it was too easy.
Easter has Richard Commey, current Ring #2 lightweight. Javier Fortuna was also a former super feather champ with one loss in 30 odd fights and Denis Shafikov a two time world title challenger. Lipinets admittedly has a weaker resume but was an undefeated world champ at his best weight. Zlaticinin was also an undefeated world champ with wins over another undefeated champ in Redkach, multi-weight champ Ricky Burns and Petr Petrov. Broner is another multi-weight champ with several good wins, he just isn't strong enough to compete with the top welters. I reckon Mikey has clearly the better resume and plus fought a lot of these guys at the top of their game and at their best weights. Peterson was a good win admittedly, but there isn't that much else on Spence's ledger in terms of world class. He passes the eye test but Mikey's is the better ledger to date IMO.
Spence is not proven yet. Saying he is better? Well based on what? A sparring session? I think Spence will probably win.. but the fact is he has not proven too much yet and his defense is not great. Not really. He gets hit with a lot of lead rights.
