Does Stiverne have ANY chance of beating Vitali?

Stiverne's impressive counters, against Arreola, won't reach Vitali's chin. - And Vittles is very good at just leaning back to avoid a punch, which makes the reach advantage even greater.

Stiverne's only chance is to get Vitali against the ropes, and launch a body attack. It's clear that Stiverne goes to the body very well, and Vitali is slowing down with age, so yes there is a chance.

Expect to see Stiverne use some kind of shell defense, the same way Charr did, but then go to the body instead of the head.

 

Of course, Vitali will be wearing special gloves, with extra-sharp thumbs, and he''l have 3-4 "ring doctors" ready to go at a moments notice, in case Stiverne actually starts pressuring him.

Stiverne would have to hope that Vitali suffers another freak arm injury during the fight. It's possible that Bermane might be able to take advantage of a one handed fighter. Chisora couldn't because of his lack of power.

 

Ever since Emanuel Stewart taught those guys the jab, no one has beaten them, and no one probably will.

Vitali is 41...42 in July. He wasn't super impressive against Charr and looks to be slowing down. Age catches up to everyone...just like it did with Martinez.

So yes, Stiverne has a chance. However, Vitali's got 7 inches on him and Stiverne is not a very aggressively fighter, which plays right into Vitali's style.

It'd be a really, really small chance unless Vitali comes back shot to pieces. Personally, I think Vitali is a couple years off from that still, despite being badly faded, but it's almost a certaintly that he wont stick around that long. Stiverne impressed me against Arreola, but I don't like the dynamics of the fight for him against a 6-8 guy with great distance control, awkward punches, and proven great durability. Stiverne's stamina and defensive holes would put him in a big hole that either ends with an accumulation stoppage loss or a wide decision loss on the cards. Even at 40-something, my money would be on Vitali forcing the former.
