Does stopping a fight due to a career threatening injury make a fighter a "quitter"?

lol vitali quitting while very ahead vs byrd because of a shoulder was not admirable; all he had to do was remain standing and not punch and he would've won...the stoppage from lewis was justified because he was close to losing that eye but he showed determination and resolve to continue that it wiped the slate clean for me so to speak

now to the topic question..if it is career threatening or somebody is getting hit too cleanly over the period of the fight..STOP IT!!!! in recent times we've had fighters shannon briggs and antonio margarito who took beatings far longer than they should have in 1 fight and paid for it big time

This should put the Quitali quit job into some perspective

Anyone watching the Byrd fight without knowing the result & will be surprised at the ending

I don't recall a fighter ever retiring because of a bad rotator cuff.......

**** Golota fought Byrd with the same injury and never quit and should've gotten the decision.:patsch

You wouldn't know if the injury is career threatening during the fight. if one says it's threatening then he is a quitter.

Watch the fight.....or just listen to the filtered sounds of the ring. Vitali was up by 8 rounds minimum....that is if you could make a case for Byrd in the 5th.

Vitali quit a fight he could have won with his jab or by running and surviving the final 2 rounds like his opponent had the previous 10.:D
