If you hate a boxer over his personal life then you're a ****en moron in my book. Some of my friends AND yours have done some grimey **** and you're still cool with them. Don't put boxers on a pedestal because they're just like us.
I actually respect that fact that Floyd doesn't try to hide his a-hole personality. Agree his 'mistakes' get blown out of all proportion also. Nobody is forced to respect anyone but you will be in the minority if you don't have respect for such a champion.
He has had a very respectable career. Definitely an ATG talent. But, he's a pretty unremarkable human being who does not have the ability to transcend the sport for the better like others before him. If anything, he made the sport worse with all these new, good fighters caring only about there 0's and the whole A-/B-side nonsense. It's actually a sad case because if he had a trainer who was not related to him, who could control him, reel him in when needed, he really could have been someone people talked about generations from now, even if he had a couple L's on his ledger. Yes he has a ton of money. Yes he has a decent (albeit fluffed up) resume. And of course his undefeated record. But with proper guidance, he could have been admirable.
Should Mike Tyson be respected? If you answer yes but think different of Mayweather you are a hypocrite.
Exactly. There are numerous boxers who were convicted criminals. It doesn't begin or end with Mayweather.
As a boxer you can't really disrespect him, there have been occasions when he has warranted criticism but not disrespect. As a person, well he went to jail for domestic assault, I personally can't respect him.
That completely contradicts your original point! If a mate had beat up a woman i would lose all respect for him same way i did Mayweather.
