Does the classic forum agree that pinning down Evander's "Prime" is futile?

I certainly do. Too many variables. Evander was damaged by the time he fought Lewis, but Lewis, in my observation (of his speech) was damaged in his pomp.

    Second question:

Presuming Evander did use steroids and/or other PEDs as most believe he did, does this take away from his legacy?

    Discuss.

What's the "problem" with pinning down his prime? His prime was from the Qawi rematch to the Bowe rematch.

I kind of think pinning down his prime years and weight are crucial to grading his legacy. Evan Fields is a different story altogether though.

yeah evanders prime is probably something like 90-92
Holyfield has a good legacy IMO. I don't think the ped charges take anything away from his legacy because think he's just a great athlete.

His prime was somewhere between 1987 and '92/'93 .....

... i dont think the steroid/HGH allegations affect his legacy. I'm pretty sure many heavyweights use the stuff. It's mainly because Holyfield kept proving people wrong that he gets scrutinized and knocked. He kept doing the things people said he couldn't do, so he's been branded a "cheat".
Yeah, maybe he took steroids, yeah, maybe he headbutted a few guys, but the reality check is that his peers are just as likely as guilty of those infractions as he is.

Evander's prime is hard. I would say 1991. The fact he still fights today and had many fights after that is irrelevant. 1991.

Many fighters have primes for different abilities. Holyfields primes are:

    Speed/Stamina - Qawi 2-Bowe2

    Power/Chin/Strength/Smarts - Tyson onwards

There is often an assumption that a younger fresher fighter has all the advantages

Its hard to say how many from the 80s onwards were using Roids, allot have, singling out Holyfield isn't necessarily fair

I feel similarly about Lennox and am certainly getting that impression with Wladimir also.

I believe his prime ended after the second Bowe fight. Although his wins over Tyson and Moorer are significant to his legacy, he had already peaked as a fighter.
Nothing has been proven about Evander and steroids, but if he was ever to admit to it or be found guilty of using (which I think he did around the Tyson fights), then yes it should impact his legacy.

I've got to say that there is a curious lack of interest in Holyfield's links to roids.

It would obviously devastate many people.
