It means little. Dawson was drained with at least 7 lbs of muscle and you cannot put on extra muscle in 24 hours.

He was drained but he said he could make the weight so no excuses.

Dawson was never going to win that fight. Not at 175. He was drained.
Dawson has always been chinny and the hook that put him down was a good shot right on the button but he never recovered after that. It´s not like Ward has one punch KO and can turn a fight in a round. Dawson looked good in rounds 5 and on but he was mentally done and his body could not recover.
Reminds me of when Morales got tagged by Garcia. He was completely done. No energy left.
Hopefully we will get a rematch at 175 one day and see how legit this win was.

It's significant that prior to the Pascal fight Dawson had been considering moving up to heavyweight.

But all along, apparently, he believed he could go for big fights at 168. He said as much in the first OTR intervew of him I heard (following the loss to Pascal). This belief is also reflected in the interviews Steward gave while he was training Dawson, where he said he had advised Dawson that he could be competitive at SMW-Cruiserweight. Now, I doubt Dawson will ever fight again at SMW and I won't be surprised if he moves to cruiser soon.

Scully did not seem enthusiastic about fighting Ward after Hopkins....Dawson should have listened to him.

The positive thing in all this for Dawson is he likely still has a LHW title and if not he can probably get a fight against Cloud or another titlist.

I think that the weight draining had a huge affect on his performance, but not so much on fight night but more during his camp. He may have rehydrated to his normal fighting weight but supposedly he was drained all training camp and took some serious beatings because of it, which I think had a serious affect on him once fight night came.

I have no doubt Dawson would have been better at 175, but he would have still lost convincingly and wouldn't be a champion anymore. Ward is just a superior fighter.

You're talking about two different things between elite fighters who stay close to their ring weight to draining your body to unhealthy levels. I agree that Dlh appeared to be fine heading into the fight but the weigh in and in ring weight saids it all. Most people, including myself, who picked Dlh to win did so based on the assumption that he would have a sizeable weight advantage in the ring. But Pac outweighed Dlh. He simply wasn't right. But having said that, it was still a heck of a win and performance.

Dawson got his ass kicked, no excuses, if he thought the weight was an issue, than he should have stayed at LHW.
