Does the fact that Jack Johnson era fighters were drying out exclude them from h2h?

    Ah... yes, Right.

Some might fear that references to Klomps wherein he is abbreviated to K2 might raise certain litigious Teutonic eye-brows.

However, proprietary protection of that alpha-numeric might prove problematic given that prior to the existence of that excellent promoter of pugilism, K2 already referred to a Mountain in Pak istan, another mountain in Canada, a train in Ireland, a bus route in London, a wrestler in Albania, a highway in Kansas, a band in Serbia, another band in South Africa, an assault rifle in Korea, a leisure centre in Crawley, a submarine in the US navy, a hermaphrodite porn star in Peru, a kayak at the 1936 Olympics, and a vitamin everywhere, to name but a few instances.

At any rate, if they come after me, I'm sure I can rely on the Classic Forum's own K2's attorneys to come to my assistance. I'm guessing they would have considerable experience in the area of copyright infringement. ;)

You can take as long as is required to verify all of the "K2s" that I mentioned.

    All save one...

It will take more than "...upwards of several seconds..." to dig up the dirt on Sofia Sebastian Maria Diego Hernández, that multi-faceted and multi talented, felatial cunnilinguist from Lima.

S(he) is known to only a small number of a select aficionados of bizarre eroticiism, and to the best of my (admittedly limited) knowledge, has never left any footprint in the realm of cyber-space.

Sofia Sebastian's fame and exploits have only been been spread orally.

That is to say, by word of mouth.

You're jumping at shadows . B. E .has leeway none of us can aspire to ,you and I can make our jocular remarks,[ no malice intended ,] but he stands alone as a registered sociopath omnivorously wrong footing each and every one of us, just go with the flow.

You're a good poster and I've absolutely no beef with you .Dont worry, you havent a senior citizen trying to get cosy with you.

On the film footage issue I think Klompton or anyone else in possession of rare and valuable flim has a perfect right to decide who does and doesn't view it.
I expect he trades and barters for stuff and as such why should he put it in the public domain for free?

Interesting topic. My take? Back then men were men. There was no air conditioning. Life's trivial tasks required people to crack a sweat. Manual labor was at its peak ( most fighter had other jobs ), and the fights themselves took place in smoky rooms or in the heat of the mid day sun.

As such people were adapted to thrive in uncomfortable situations. Fighters fought at their best weight. Welters were 147 pounds on fight night. Today they are near or over 160 on fight night...so they are middles who dehydrated to make weight then re-hydrated by drinking a lot of water, or taking an IV.

Klompton and I have sparred on here more than a few times I thought at one time that I might have some footage that was rare, [Langford v Hague]turns out I was wrong and I had to eat humble pie.

Anyone who has paid/traded/bartered for rare fight footage, has a perfect right to do with it what they will ,[provided they dont destroy it, I draw the line there.] Talk of a communal boxing fraternity is pie in the sky, imo. eg If Klompton made a thread saying he knew some one who had footage of say Greb v Ratner ,and that person wanted $5000 for it I doubt many would be volunteering to chip in for it. Plenty would be gagging to view it but for nothing.

There is no logic to your argument at all and you know it. Its populist pandering plain and simple. "Lets claim the 'haves' should give everything to the 'have nots' and get a rise out of the mob." Sorry, I dont subscribe to that belief. I worked hard to find the films I have, earn the money to buy them or those that I trade for them, and restore them etc. I also work hard to foster a reputation as someone who once given something that another party doesnt want made public will honor his word. Youre argument is "why should klompton, or anyone else set the standard by which others get to see this stuff." The answer is simple: Because its a commodity. It cost money to acquire and the person/people who have it decide how much it is worth to them ALONE. You ***** and moan because there are things out there that you are too lazy to acquire yourself, youd rather complain that I dont view you as a charity case and give it to you for free. You think that by saying "what happens when you die, you cant take it with you" you are painting me as a miserly greedy curmudgeon. You arent. At the end of the day I am a boxing fan who purchases this footage at great expense to myself for my own personal enjoyment. YOUR enjoyment never has and never will be of the slightest concern to me. If I still have my collection as I take my last breath I will feel imminently satisfied with myself just as I would if a bought a PPV card on TV and didnt invite you over to watch it with me, or if I bought a ticket to a fight and didnt give it to you for free to go in my place. The idea that all of this stuff should be free and accessible to everyone is beyond fantasy and I suggest if you have a problem with it you go ***** and moan to Bob Arum, Don King, and Golden Boy about the ridiculous cost of PPV matches on tv (which you love to RBR) or ticket prices for non competitive overhyped glam cards. Buying every ppv so you can come on here and rbr and then complaining that Im greedy because I have a private collection strikes me as a bit disingenuous. You reject this notion but if so then explain to me why Showtime has more claim to PPV boxing than I do to a rare film I purchase? Any way you break down it is indeed comparable so why should I give you something for free yet you willingly pay them and dont complain? Your notion that "if and when showtime ceases to exist their library should be public domain" is ridiculous. Irregardless even if it were public domain, as many boxing films are, there would still be people out there like showtime who would restrict them within their collections and make money off them. Dont believe me? Ask ESPN, they do it every single day and they have a lot more than I do.

You say that people are deprived their just due from seeing my footage. Why exactly is it your just due? Is it one of your unalienable rights to view every scrap of boxing footage you want to? Hardly.

The idea that all "hoarders" (i.e. people who have spent hard work, time, and money to acquire something) should just suddenly **** on that investment and place it on youtube or be deemed "assholes" by a faceless internet troll is laughable and one that I doubt anyone in my position would lose sleep over.

You say they arent precious gemstones. Well, too some, who dont collect gems or jewelry but choose to invest their time and money into this hobby they are. You show yourself by that comment. They are meaningless to you, worthless even, you dont respect the time, money, and effort that went into them or into acquiring them so why would anyone value YOUR opinion on them.

You say 100 years from now my time, money, and effort wont matter. Maybe not, no more certainly than your post above. But for me the mission was accomplished. Ultimately I purchase these things to view them for myself. My obligation is not to some faceless "fan." Beyond that, if I spent money on this stuff, and it has inherent value, Id be a fool to not try to capitalize on that and recoup some of my loss at a later date. I have a family and such my duty is to them long before it is to somebody on the internet so obviously innocent of the ways of the world.

Ill make you an offer IB. Put up $10,000 and I will sell you some of the rarest films you never even knew existed on DVD. Once you have them you can do what you want with them. My guess is that A. I will never see the color of your money and B. If I did they would never end up on Youtube. Thats the problem with children like you, money talks and bull**** walks. When you actually have to walk a mile in my shoes its a lot harder to pander to the crowd.

Ive actually already put this to the test. A year or so ago I found a bunch of rare footage. Several hours worth. On another forum where I had been bashed like I am here I advertised for anyone who wanted to go in on it with me. I got 2 responses... So at the end of the day accessibility isnt really the issue, as guys like IB pretend. The real issue is they want something for nothing. Those people have a lot of growing up to do.

According to at least one poster in this thread, yes he did, in his first career. Interesting tilt to his gassing twice in his longer fights.

I don’t fully understand the politics here, and I am not saying this in the spirit of bashing klompton. In science, history or any other area of study, I have always felt that information should be as widely available as possible, even to the most unworthy individuals.

A major area of contention in Palaeontology, is the private fossil market, where exactly the same issue exists because unique specimens can disappear into private hands never to be seen again. Of course in that instance, there is a much more organised body (museums and universities) trying to make the information generally available.

Perhaps we need an organisation to collect rare fight films, and make them generally available.

You wrote "and make the generally available" instead of "keep them for themselves."

One thing that's interesting is the way people lose all interest pretty quick. I remember when Charles-Marshall was considered rare and a bit of a holy grail, now nobody really cares about it because it's up on the internet. Interesting.

Me, I don't care. Who cares? You could spend all your life, literally, watching all the fights that are interesting in the past and future and you would never see them all.

I majored in Anthropology/Archaeology and we have the same issue (probably to a far greater extent actually) so I understand your point but I dont agree. One is a scientific field of study that can further mankinds knowledge of this planets history and evolution. The other is boxing. Nuff said. And, frankly, we can actually use the museum/university example more aptly to defend my case. Museum's and universities keep their collections on far tighter lockdown than someone like me and its rare that even 1/10 of what they have is displayed to the general public. Furthermore Ive always been very open about stating that if anyone wants to come view something they are welcome. Thats at least as good as youll get at a University or Museum and in the case of their special collections, films, etc you arent likely to have access to much if anything at all. A lot of that stuff is only accessible to academics (if at all) on a limited study basis. So again, I find the accusation that I am miserly (particularly compared to a supposedly more open university or museum) a bit hard to swallow. In light of the above, again, I say the issue really isnt about openness or sharing information as some on here pretend to pontificate about. Its about wanting something for their own for free. Because, as I said, they can come here and watch it and have a good time. It isnt being hoarded in some secret vault. They just cant take a copy home with them or download it from youtube. So you tell me. Am I being a greedy miserly hoarding *******, or are those guys just wanting something for nothing? The case is pretty clear to me.

You didn’t create the system, and it seems that you are trying to be as fair as you can.

I just wish that there was a British Library for fight footage!

George Foreman was doing the same in the 1970s !
Joe Louis did it in his prime.

Yes, there was a school of thought that being a bit dried out made a fighter more keen and alert, mean whatever. Not every old-school trainer subscribed to this, but quite a few did.
