Does the Idea of the "Great White Hope" Still Exist?

    I personally think that in boxing, only the skills, the competition, and the fighters will to win is important, not the color of his skin or last name. If a fighter legitimately works his way up against his divisions contenders, demonstrates a positive behavior, not a childish one trying to replicate others from the past, this Great White Hope stuff should not matter, to me that could turn into the Great White Hype sort of thing among the media.

    There was a time in boxing with the joke never bet on the white guy. With Fury and Usyk beating the top blacks in the heavyweights has this joke been outdated??

    I suspect that if a white American wee to become a top contender for the HW title, it would be the biggest thing in American boxing in a long, long time. White non-Americans don't register in the consciousness of casual American sports fans.
