When you say "this idea by DW" what exactly do you mean. I thought the argument was solely on how to throw the lead hook with one side of the fence namely S**** saying to lift the lead heel whilst DW is saying keep the lead foot including the heel touching the floor. Surely theres only 1 way to throw the leadhook with power.
BTW watched the freddie roach vid. Cheers.
Also jonny at expert boxing is saying to lift the lead heel.
Whats this thing DWs saying that is so hard to grasp i thought he was simply saying keep the whole of the lead foot on the floor. Cheers

Well s**** throws his hook with the left hook elevated Ol' Charley Burley technique, DW is like George foreman with the lead heel flat on the floor. Two entirely different hooks.
people who throw the left hook off of the planted heel are very strong. When I first started out my coach had me digging both heels into the floor as I punched with zero ankle movement, The trajectory of the punch traveled upwards in a salute.

That being said for the rest of us we need to learn how to swing our hips around like s**** teaches.

Tai Chi, if you know the charley burley technique this should be fairly simple.

Make the motion as if you're slipping a jab through the space between your right ear and shoulder (which puts your bodyweight on your front leg--a front pivot), then begin to pull your right hip towards the target (creates more torque than pushing your left hip), let your shoulders follow your hips then fist and eventually, as you're going through the punch your heel will elevate.

I didn't say that at all. I said that your right foot should be flat on the ground and your left foot should be the pivot with the weight shifting to the back foot.

Theres lots of ways to throw hooks, longs ones short ones, some as big as the head, always give them a twist using the wrist, and heel, thats what the showman says. Sung to, Ive got a lovely bunch of cocunuts.

    Dont make it complicated.
Its a weight change , from front to back.

Yes, It pivots slightly and turns a bit as you punch and shift your weight from front to back. Dont worry about it. It happens by itself as you turn and pivot. Focus more about putting yourself in position to throw the hook. Dont reach.

    This^^^^^ :deal

Like he said, you guys are making this too complicated with all of this talk about "lifting the heel". You all are making it out to be an unnatural movement. Its natural. By the time your fist makes contact with his face, you should have your weight almost all the way back to your back foot.

Both heels are raised, both knees are bent, giving balance to the centre line. So the head doesn't move, unless theres an obvious reason, then you are in balance to move it, basics.

Just because its natural doesnt mean its the correct or best way. The natural way to lift a heavy weight off the floor is to bend down with your back but its not the best way

Agreed for those of us who don't have natural power the only way to get that power is by turning the hips over 180° essentially you're throwing your bodyweight into that punch.

What I'm saying is correct technique feels natural!

For those that "don't" have natural power means you need to work harder in the gym. Unless you have hand issues like Paulie Malignaggi, there is no excuse to sacrifice technique. And how do you turn turn your hips over 180 degrees? You would literally be looking behind you.
