As soon as i heard the HBO crew announce that DLH weighed 147 lbs on fight night, i said, "Oh no, he's probably going to lose." And when i saw him walking to the ring and watch his body and his facial expressions and demeanor, i felt even less confident. He didn't look like a confident man. And this was all before the fight even started.

I agree. DLH coming in against Pac weighing less...? Crazy! He didnt stand a chance agains Pacs speed even weighing less than him. He was suppose to be the bigger guy...weird.

Oscar agreed to make 147(he said he would make it healthy) and the training camp was wrong as it weakened him

No....the wieght suggested to me that Oscar lost the weight to get down to 147 the proper way...doing the correct methods of training, nutrition and dieting. It's when a fighter balloons up in wieght on fight night that one has to worry about conditioning. What DLH may have had happen to him was being "OVER TRAINED"...if that is the case he can blame his corner for that. It's their job to have DLH Peak on Fight night...not PEAK 2 or 3 wks out. After seeing DLH weight on fight night I felt PAC was going to get KO'd for sure.:patsch

Precisely. And this is the point. So much is made about weight. But no one seems to understand that mature fighters at 30 plus SHOULD NOT make weights that are uncomfortable to there body, espcially when there 6 foot and over. You loose way to much in peformance and its counter productive to your overall conditioning. There arent many fighters out there that understand there bodies. Hopkins Sugar Shane Manny and Floyd are a rare breed. As all of them are gym rats and all understand there relationship between there weight, the bodies conditioning and there peformance.

Has there ever been a case of a fighter around 35 or over that lost a noticeable amount of weight to get to a lower division and had success? Recent examples of RJ, Byrd, and DLH suggest that this is suicide as it just does something terrible to the body. I'm no sport nutritionist but wouldn't common sense say that losing muscle at this age is bad?

Pac could have the style to beat Delahoya even if he was not weight drained, but surely it wouldn't be that one-sided. Power Punch stats were off the charts.

Funny thing is no body mentioned that Pac doesn't hit that hard at this weight class. He landed power punches at will, Delahoya was still there after eight rounds.

ok surreal deal lets say oscar did rehydrate properly and gained between 12-15 pounds over night and pacman still destroyed him (which i think he wouldve)

would you not be saying that oscar put on too much weight and was therefore too slow so he shouldve came in lighter so he could hav more speed?

i think you would be saying that

Oscar was 150 in his last fight. Pacquiao 135. He had only fought ONCE at lightweight and made the jump all the way to the welter division. I find Pac's feat much more impressive. Let's give the guy some credit. He deserves it.

Yes Pac's last fight was at 135, but I heard that he weighed 144 on the night of that fight.

It's been quite obvious for some time now, I'd say since the Forbes fight, that Oscar had maintained an even weight of about 150 before training. All the public appearances he made showed a very slim Hoya, smaller than any time at 154. Once he started training the rumor was he was already at 147 and from the pics revealed to the public his weight loss shows drastically. So yes, Oscar for all purposes was a welterweight for this fight. I guess his idea was that he would be a natural welter and therefore stronger. This is where things went wrong. But the writing was on the wall. I myself thought that because he stayed at welter and never went out of shape it would help him rather than had he cut down from junior welterweight.

Oscar didn't have to weigh 147 on fight night.

people already know that the fight is at 147. just a few months ago, oscar was fighting at 150 against forbes. people should have weighed this already and the possibilty of oscar coming in weight-drained. pacquiao also has the possiblity of coming in too bloated and slow coming from the lower weights. we have all cast our opinion before the fight and some of us bet for oscar. hindsight is such a wonderful thing.

No i wouldnt.I'd see it as Pac beating a far healthier Oscar.I dont think he would have the time to bloat up to the point were it affects his speed drastically.
