Being that Roy was in attendence tonight he had to love what he saw tonight and will be ready to shock us all with a domination of Calzaghe? :deal.. that might be too much to hope for lol
The fight is going to come down to how physically strong JC is, and if he is able to match RJJ's strength, if he can't than RJJ will bust his ass IMO.
If anything it will hinder Jones confidence! Calazaghe just beat a Bernard Hopkins that dominated a very good power hitting Kelly Pavlik. Hopkins performance tonight only enhances Calazaghe's win over Hopkins. Jones must be shitting his pants right about now!
Agreed! Jones simply does'nt have the skillset of Bernard Hopkins.....his career has been predicated on winning through sheer speed and quickness. With that gone, Jones has become vulnerable in every way.
this fight has oddball written all over it. Are there any fighters less orthodox than these two? whatever happens, it is going to be weird, and awkward, and everyone is going to come away from it feeling dirty. If I was Roy I'd be thinking "As I suspected, Calzaghe is not being over-estimated" but it still doesn't make calzaghe a knockout threat, which is going to be a big deal in this fight because ALL RJJ really has to be afraid of is being knocked out, and without a fear of that, he can put on a real show whether or not he wins a decison
Excellent point. Jones was never a great boxer, he was just so fast on his feet with such reflexes that he just overwhelmed his opponents. Once his footwork went away he has not been the same, he cant avoid shots like he used to and he cant use the ring like he once did. When you are a reflex speed fighter, your whole game depends on being fleet of foot. When you lose that ability to twist and pivot, you get reduced to just being a fighter with fast hands and decent upperbody movement, which is what RJJ is now. Considering how much times he has been spending on the ropes, I would be shocked if he came out looking like his Prime. It is not a question of stamina like it was for BHop. BHop still had to skills, he justdidnt always seem to have the energy to execute.
Anything is possible. It seems the underdogs are winning this year in boxing like Hopkins and Margarito. :hey
true though the general consensus seems to be that Calzaghe's punching power has declined past not simple being a power puncher, in recent years
Would'nt that be something? ......and I'd love to see Pacquiao follow in the same trend and hand Oscar his arse!:yep
