No doubt he was a brown belt or thereabouts at that time, and he had Big Nog as a grappling partner. So he wasn't lacking on that side of the game.

 

Looks like Micheal Bisping taking Anderson Silvas spot at UFCShangai Main Event against Kevin Gastelum, gotta respect him for getting straight back in the cage against a good fighter as well.

 

Say what you like about Bisping, but he is a proper fighting man

 

He wasn't as good on the mat as he later became.

Wow dude lame for you or anybody finding a reason to **** on somebody stepping in on 2 weeks let alone the fact Bisping coming back less then a month after being stopped by 1 of the ATGs.Also shows a limited understanding calling Gastelum just a blown up welterweight especially considering most of his fights have been above that and he won his contract into the UFC as the ULTIMATE FIGHTER 17 MIDDLEWEIGHT winner.

 

And he was a welter. Dolce was brought in to keep him at that weight.

Funny how Mike wasn't this game to fight Romero, Jacare etc.

 

He ducked Jacare and Souza, we all know that. He took two money fights instead and went 1-1 in them.

That being said it takes balls to come back so soon.

Was Bisping a **** champion, absolutely. But as a challenger he's always fought the best guys.

 

Bisping criticized Weidman's win over Gastelum saying he's a blown up welter and now he's fighting him thinking it's easy pickings.

 

He ducked Yoel, too.

He's got no choice BUT to fight the best now.

 

He was a poor champion. He should have basically done the two fights Whitaker did.

He has always fought the best apart from the championship stint, most UFC men do fight the best.

What he doesn't have to do is fight so soon against such a quality opponent.

He deserves credit here.

 

Yep Gastelum is a very winnable fight at 185 for Bisping and he will be very well paid for it. He's only got a couple of fights left in him so why not from his perspective. Would he have been this eager to fill in if he was fighting Weidman,Romero, Rockhold rather than fat welter Gastelum ? I would doubt it myself.

Not just that, but if he beats Kev and another lower top 10 guy, he can say "I'm an ex champ who had a few defences, now I've got a few wins. So where's my shot?".

Smart move, IMHO.
