Chin: Manilla, Foreman Power: He had the greatest left in history, only man to put a 70s Ali down. Gave George Chuvalo the worst beating of his career.
Being able to throw a great left hook does not mean you are at Fraziers level as a fighter. Joe was a far more skilled hwt than Tua and he usually came in the ring in great fighting shape. Tua many times looked like he did his roadwork to and from McDonalds.
I was wondering why Ali would be favoured over a guy who was apparently so much better than Frazier? The Frazier who gave Ali life and death 3 times. I wondered if Ali could stop the juggernaut that is Tua from getting inside and pummeling him with left hooks, when the weaker and chinnier Frazier managed it. Funny how mythical powers fade against Ali.
I disagree, and I think you will struggle to find anyone agreeing with you. Which fighters did Frazier actually ko, as in put down for a ten count? Tua fought several bangers in his prime , none stopped ,or even floored him.
Ali and Frazier had their primes more than 40 years ago, if you match them up with Lewis and Klitschko I would probably bet against them. Not because I believe that the modern giants were better fighters, but because it's my opinion that drugs and size matters. Against Tua I'm not so sure though, he was a couple of levels below both Frazier and Ali, and I'm not sure that the extra bulk and strength could make up for it. I see the stylistic argument for Tua over Frazier, but I believe its overstated. Power is not the only answer as to why Foreman could handle Frazier the way he did. Just as vital was his size and reach, and his strength and ability to push Joe away so that he could land his power punches from a safe distance. A fight against Tua would be different, Joe faced some smaller stockier guys who could bang (although probably not as hard as Tua) and beat them all. On paper, Tua should pose more of a stylistic problem for Ali. A small stocky pressure fighter with a good left hook and fast hands. Against Ike he showed good stamina to. Sounds just like the fighter to trouble the greatest. In closing, I think it’s fair to favor modern fighters over greats from the passed. Generally I would to. But why is Ali an exception to the rule?
Your agenda is hilarious. Alis style is a nightmare for Tua. Frazier is tailor made for Tua. It really is that simple.
If there's one fighter Ali completely toys with it's Tua. What has Tua got physically or skillwise that's going to trouble Ali? Oh sorry he can punch.
I've never implied Tua was ,"so much better than Frazier",what I have said is that, given both were come forward swarmers ,and that Tua is 25/30lbs heavier ,hits harder with both hands, and has a better chin than Frazier ,he has a great chance in a match up with him. Your sarcasm might be more impressive if you didn't use Ali outboxing Tua as an argument that Frazier would beat him. As it is you ignore the stone fact that styles make fights and Tua v Frazier is pitting two pit bulls against one another, and when this happens the bigger more powerful ,harder hitting ,and more durable pit bull usually wins. What is mythical about stating Tua was a great puncher and had a great chin? It would also have been nice if you had answered my two questions. Which I now repeat, thereby giving you another opportunity to do so. 1.Did Frazier hit harder than Tua? 2.Did Frazier have a better chin than Tua?
A stunning number of people around here think the logic of "styles make fights" goes out the window completely in any matchup involving an ATG heavyweight agains a non-ATG. They really think these men are a race of superhero immortals or something.
