    Seems highly unlikely.

Just about everything critical you can say about Marciano's opposition applies to Tunney's also, except in the end he wasn't as dominant.

Going through their records, it seems Marciano fought 19 fights out of 49 against opponents with less than 10 wins or with losing records. Tunney fought 45 such fights out of 85.

The one man over 195 lbs. Tunney faced, Heeney, was neither a good boxer nor a puncher, off the film and his record. He was an average mauler, made to order for a boxer-mover like Tunney.

    No.

Right intangibles, not good enough. Not beating Walcott and Charles twice each for me.

No. He doesn't. He doesn't have Marciano's work rate, punching power or physical strength

I think gene drops 1 fight to the first versions of Walcott Charles Moore that Marciano fought. And Edward made an argument gene could possibly drop an earlier 1 to marcianos opponents on his way up. He also makes a good point how gene never established superiority over loughran and Greb

    So he doesn’t go 49-0

Possibly it doesn't really alter my opinion of him tbh. A beats B so he must beat C and all that.

If you read Edwards post you have to take a consideration a look at Tunneys record and how he drew with a few tomato cans early in his career on top of not establishing supremacy over teenager loughran and Greb, so it might be hard for him to go 5-0 against Moore Charles and Walcott on top of beating a prime Rex Layne.

    “Primes”

I think we both agree Walcott Charles Moore were past their primes, but that’s not the important question. The important question was “how much left did they have in the tank.”

In the case of Walcott and Moore, leading up to the Marciano fight, they showed in there resume that they could still defeat hall of fame caliber fighters in their 20s (knocking out 29 year old Ezzard Charles and 25 year old Harold Johnson )...so both men even at their respective ages showed they were still capable of defeating ATG prime fighters in their 20s. This is significant and makes a tunney fight appear far more competitive than originally thought for Tunney supporters.

Walcott or Charles were theoretically capable of beating Tunney... from what we have seen of Tunney.

Not for me. I don't think it's entirely set in stone that Rocky goes through Tunney's opponents undefeated, although I'd be a little surprised if he didn't.

To be honest, I don't think Marciano goes 49-0 against Marciano's opposition.

It wasn't five. If you count all the guys he fought who weighed more than 175, he fought heavyweights roughly 20 times, including the dominant 31-year-old heavyweight champion and lost ZERO times.

Tunney was bigger than Rocky. Tunney was a better boxer than Rocky. Tunney had more KOs than Rocky. Tunney would've beaten all of Rocky's opponents when Rocky fought them.

    “Dominant”

He had been out of the ring for 3 plus years.

    “Tunney more Kos than rocky”

Out of how many fights? Against how much middleweights? Marciano much higher KO percentage against larger higher rated fighters

“Tunney would have beaten all of Rocky’s opponents”

So he couldn’t establish supremacy over Greb and Loughran, yet he’s going to go undefeated vs Walcott Charles Moore? Doesn’t seem realistic
