Some posters on here have given tyson fury a lot of credit, rightly or wrong, claiming the big guy is one of the greatest talents to put on gloves. What's your view? Is he beating most ATG s. Or is he just a talented super sized heavy who got klitschko at the right time? Curious to see how people view Mr fury.
There has never been a man so big and mobile to lace them up. astonishing fluid for such a big guy Easily dominated wlad and didn't break a sweat doing it. And many consider wlad to be top 10 atg hw
At his best, yes, because he's a unique challenge. Tough to find sparring to prep you for what's essentially a platypus of a SHW that actually knows how to box. Appearances would suggest he's a stationary target with no head movement, minimal leg movement, killer power, and a low workrate with few combos, letting his jab carry the load so as not to gas in a 12/15 round fight. The reality is a different animal entirely. People make the mistake of selling Fury short because he's coasted at times, but a focused Fury isn't an easy out. He's got a low floor (frankly, he looks awful when he doesn't give a damn) but a very high ceiling.
He's good but he's not that good. I think he got Klitschko at the right time, but he would always give him a tough fight. Styles make fights etc. Let's pit him against a few ATG's... Lennox Lewis: Fury's power would not faze Lennox so he would be chasing him around the ring all night long and TKOing or KOing him later on. Evander Holyfield: Fury's got a chance of beating Evander on points, but Evander will beat him by pinning him to the ropes and chasing him all night. Working all night to a late TKO or UD. Riddick Bowe: He will KO Fury sooner or later, he has more power and a better chin. Excellent infighting for a tall man, great jab etc. Mike Tyson: Tyson would have trouble with Fury's size but eventually would KO him. Similar to the Tyrell Biggs fight.
Yes. He has size, knows how to use it and has a very good boxing brain. He lacks power though, I mean he's not feather fisted but he isn't exactly a power puncher either. Also, he isn't the fastest in the world but he's mobile enough for a guy his size. And lazy, fat or undertrained, he's got a great engine. I think some of the faster guys would give him problems. To see Fury at his absolute best, id recommend the Wlad fight, or the Chisora rematch.
And I picked Fury to beat both Klits many years ago (around the time of the Vitali-Chisora fight) and people just laughed.
Well, he has never been in with a real life body......WK has been done for a long time and he was never that great to begin with...........I would favor a motivated properly trained Fury over Green Horn Super Gasser Aj due to Fury's movement but a prime Foreman, Bowe, Lemmie and Mike Tyson would do a real number on him aka breaking him down.
He would be awkward for most all time greats but would lose to them. Wladimir would have won their fight if it was prime for prime scenario. Vitali would have done too.
I'm inclined to think the underlined is the case but he is definitely a tough conundrum to solve for anybody.
As was a focused Buster Douglas. That fact in itself doesn't help us gauge his ATG potential very well. Fury has to prove himself to become a disciplined, focused professional over a span of years. Not a walking stock-market-bubble that is prone to frequent crashes.
Agreed. I file him in that "wild card" category for the time being until he gets some more big fights and we see how he handles them (win or lose, I'm hoping we get the chance to see it). I'm hoping he gets his act back together, because I do think there's a very high ceiling there if he doesn't keep getting in his own way. Shame he doesn't have the discipline of a Holyfield or a Wlad.
I was just about to ask you, are you the guy who picked fury to pull an upset but you beat me to it. Respect
I think Lewis would have more trouble, vitali gave him problems, yea it was past prime lewis, but still he struggled with vitali's range, size and akwardness, fury is better than vitali
