Holmes was awful in his fight against Tyson and admitted he only fought him for the money and was scared before the fight.
Tyson was very inactive before the Bruno fight because he broke his hand punching Mitch Green in a street scrap. His rustiness really showed in that fight, his head movement was missing which is why Bruno was able to catch him wit that hook in the 1st without setting the punch up with a jab, Tyson didn`t work the body like he usually did in his Rooney days, once he started downstairs Frank folded pretty quick, different class.
I think every work spoken by Holmes on this subject is complete bull****. He should’ve been at least able to replicate the Tillis fight, but he happened to get drilled with a right hand and annihilated soon after.
He was running away from the first round and couldn`t land his jab, a complete mismatch, Holmes body was a mess he had lost so much speed.
Agreed except he was a 6'3" 230 pound massively strong and hard punching athletically gifted fighter ... if he was the weak link I think he matches up well with other weak links like Jack Monroe or Stanley Ketchel or Carpienter/Miske or half a dozen guys Louis defended against to Cockell or London/Mildenberg/Cooperman/Wepner/Dunn or Zanon/Rodriguez or you get the point ( I hope ) .. he also did beat some solid guys as well ..
Bruno would never have landed a hook on Ali like the one Cooper landed on him, Cooper was faster than Bruno and Ali had to get his weight down for their rematch so he could get on his bike and stay away from `Enry`s `ammer, Muhammad would have beat Bruno quite easily and also would have knocked him out.
With all due respect Mark, Holmes' ego and vanity will always leave a lingering doubt on the validity of some of his comments. He also claims he would have beat Tyson prime for prime. He might be right, he might not be, but he's always struck me and from what I've been able to gauge, most of the other posters in the classic as someone that gives other fighters very little credit, especially Tyson.
Nailed it, it's hard not to come to the conclusion that Holmes is trapped in his own vanity and a little bit deluded from some of the comments he makes.
Yeah I think it us an underrated win. I know it isn't the same as beating a prime Holmes, but it was still a good win. Because I can't see even many prime heavies KO'ing Holmes like Tyson did. It was a straight demolition job.
