F&D engages in some carefully considered posting. Don't we all aspire to his calculated, finely considered ****ysis? I know I do.

Rocky was at the top level for 5 years. From beating Shkor up until beating Moore there was a period of 5 years and from Tyson beating Berbick until losing to Douglas there was a period of 4 years.

After losing to Douglas, Tyson went on to have a large number of top quality victories.

By the time Tyson stops training seiously he'd be facing Charles, ****ell and Moore. Would ant of those 3 be able to pull the trick and upset Iron? In theory Douglas shouldn't be able to have done the job, but we all know he did. Crisp sharp punches, lateral movement, smothering in close. I don't see any of those being big enough to do the job here tbh. I think the head hunting version of Tyson who was more animal than boxer, I think he steamrolls the opposition he'd be facing here.

If Tyson was in Rocky's time, I don't see him losing until Liston comes along. I'm not saying it's not possible, but I can't envision an old Archie Moore being able to box Tyson from range and hurt him enough to end the fight.

Douglas wasn't the best HW in the world but he had good physical assets that he was able to maximise that night.

I don't think cocaine was readily available in the 1950's.

The most realistic option. Tyson, even on a drug binge could probably go through Marcianos opposition unbeaten. I'm not trying to downplay Marciano here, but unless you were able to physically match Tyson, you weren't beating him. Charles, Walcott and Moore were all crafty boxers, but so was Michael Spinks and we all know what happened there. And the same would have happened if Tyson came into the ring coked up. And if anything, that version of Spinks was better than the veterans Rocky beat.

I agree completely. Even the Tyson of the Douglas/Ruddock era beats Walcott/Charles/Moore handily. Simply put, none of them had the size to exploit his weaknesses.

Marciano is the only HW champ where it seems every other ATG beats his opposition and I don't see why. Walcott, Charles, and Moore looks just as good if not better than the majority of fighters before and after them. No one is going to go through these men easily.

Yes, Tyson Fury would run through Marciano's resume unbeaten.

The Tyson of the Spinks fight could have smoked all of Marciano’s opponents, but when he turns up to a title fight undertrained, and comes out of his corner lethargically head hunting, it is going to be game on.

Somebody would have done it, the only question is who.

People use the argument that Douglas beat him because of his physical advantages, but I am not entirely sold on that argument.

It is essentially saying “the fighter who pulled off the shocking upset had A, therefore A was the reason he beat him”.

He might just have beaten him because he was ready to be beaten.

People totally take what Marciano did for granted, despite the fact that nobody else did it in a hundred years of gloved boxing.

If nobody can match what he is doing in a period of over a hundred years, there is obviously a reason.

Even putting it on his opposition is not a sufficient argument, because weak eras are ten a penny.
