Debate ain't over lol. sparring ain't nothing like a real fight. It should not be serious enough to almost beat a living boxing legend in your second fight.

No, Usyk hasn't made the top 5 heavyweights despite his success, so i don't know why you're trying to discredit him so hard. He was 40yrs old and he actually won unlike many other greats

    Francis Ngannou wasn’t.

    Tyson barely beat him.

Usyk didn’t look good against Rico.

But was it styles and size?

    How unorthodox he was?

    Was he really motivated?

Or just contractually obligated to fight due to Turki wanting the fight?

Was it some of the above?

    All of the above?

    Outside/family issues?

To me, he looked lethargic and disinterested.

    Overweight.

He was in a position where he had nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Whereas Rico had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

    It was Rico’s Super Bowl.

This is exactly why in football/soccer, in the cup competitions, that the lower level teams sometimes beat the top teams from the highest league.

Although that I think that this was a little embarrassing for Usyk, I don’t think it affects his standing in any way.

However, it’s definitely a wake up call to all of those fans who think that he’s unbeatable, and that he could have beaten everybody throughout history at the weight.

Usyks fanboys are equally horrible as mike tysons fanboys. Always makin excuses for his hero. Im an usyk fan but not a fanboy. Thats the difference. Im able to critisize my favourite boxers too unlike them.

I love it when the question in the title and the question in the poll are two different questions.

i feel like for modern heavy weights (2014 onwards) he reigns supreme regardless of one nights performance, the only mar on his run at heavyweight is honestly this verhooven fight.
Besides that? a lackluster-ish chisora fight when getting acclimated doesn’t seem bad at all in comparison to other greats getting sparked (lewis, tyson, ali, frazier)

I sent my first reply without seeing this.

My opinion on the fight is this:

Tyson had zero motivation for the fight, and he completely underestimated him. However, it was a cheque for a ridiculous amount of money, that he just couldn’t turn down.

Those other greats you mentioned would never struggle against kickboxer in a boxing match. I love how you guys are ignoring that part you guys are actin like its the same thing to have a shitty performance against the likes of berbick, buster, rahman, mccall. You wanna equate those performances to a shitty performance against kickboxer. Its laughable all of those guys were either former champs or contenders something rico will never be.
You made a good point, i agree.

I rate usyk highly, i don't think anybody in history steamrolls over prime usyk. He would win against some greats but he would definitely lose against some greats too. The thing is i can be critical of somebody without being considered a so called "HATER". Its not only about bad performance he had against rico. Its also about the fact he made boxing look pathetic. A former kickboxer with only 1 professional boxing fight almost won against him. He made our sport look bad in general and because of him we will be forced to watch more garbage crossover fights.

There are actual boxers who came from Muay Thai and kickboxing and became boxing champions with limited boxing experience. The difference with Rico is that he looked horrible. Dubois, Wardley, Kabayel, and Itauma could probably get a KO in less than three rounds.

I do think Usyk isn't overrated, though. Most people are correct to rank him in the top 10, over guys who shouldn't be in the top 10 like Bowe and Wlad.

Bro a lot of people here were saying he is top 5 for sure while for me he can maybe barely enter top 10. Even thats highly questionable. They really think wins over fury, joshua and dubois solidify his top 10 status.

Good point, i can rank him above wlad however bowe had those wins against holyfield on his resume. So i rank bowe higher. You cooked about rico though. I agree with that part.
