Exactly. Aging applied to Usyk, when he has only racked up 25 professional fights. How much wear-and-tear is that? Also, name an all-time great pushing 40 with a mere 25 fights in their entire career.

 

He had about 350 amateur fights.

 

Amateur fights are much shorter, use headgear, and are stopped quickly after heavy hits.

 

But you are still getting hit, still get knocked out, still get brain concussed, and still break hands. Guys come out of amateur ranks completely shot, sometimes.

The idea that punches taken in amateur fights somehow don't count is actually really silly.

Not relevant. The damage goes somewhere. Ali was knocked down four times, and look how he ended up.

 

Yes, in a single fight against Frazier, Ali took more punches than Usyk has in his entire career. Just think about it—have you ever seen Usyk take a beating like that in a single fight?

Why is the concern about damage focused only on Usyk and not Rico?

Ali slowed down from fight to fight; it was obvious. As he himself put it, the third fight with Frazier turned him into an old man. Do you think the second fight against Dubois was Usyk’s "Frazier III"?

Usyk is arguably fighting his best heavyweight bout, yet ten months later, in his next fight, he’s supposedly a battered old man? Next, you’ll be claiming he’s showing signs of Parkinson’s.

Usyk had 350 amateur fights. He's taken a massive amount of punches. And yes, at 39, that is going to start to catch up.

It is not a matter of opinion that things start to fall apart at that age.

 

Ten months earlier, there wasn't the slightest sign of this. Just how badly would Dubois have had to beat him for him to be unable, in his very next fight, to beat an aging kickboxer—someone who has been fighting professionally for 20 years but had only one meaningless boxing match ages ago? It’s unbelievable!

What evidence is there that Usyk has suddenly aged? The exact same evidence that existed before the Dubois fight, in which he dominated a top-tier heavyweight (ranked somewhere between 2 and 4). He *dominated*—yet he couldn't do the same against a retired kickboxer. Regardless of the reasons, it’s simply embarrassing, and the names Ngannou and Verhoeven will always come up in discussions about the current heavyweight division and its quality.

 

How popular and ubiquitous was Kickboxing in the 70's-80's, and what were the rules within it? MMA didn't even exist as a combat sport yet.

Tex Cobb had some kind of background in Kickboxing and he beat 3 good names and went the distance with some of the top guys in Boxing.
