I can understand Ortiz' team asking for this. Berto is a massive risk for a young fighter who's still on the road to recovery. It isn't too out of the ordinary for them to try and grab any little advantage they can. Asking Berto to come down to 143 is a little hopeful, but you can't blame them for trying.

I agree with the above, Ortiz isn't mentally strong enough for boxing at the elite level.

Berto fought at 165lbs as an amatuer.
He has said that he wouldnt mind going down to 140 aswel as long as the money and opponent was right.

Berto loves him some southpaws.
