I say yes. If for no other reason than the fact two such high ranking pfps so rarely face each other in their prime like these guys are (cough maypac). They deserve a hell of alot of credit, and hopefully the winner increases his earnings potential 3 fold.

I think it would be hard to place anybody above the winner but I also think it depends on the fight, if it's a real stinker or seriously controversial then people could take issue.

My view is that.. Ward is #1.. but the #1 losing doesn't mean #1..

So in that sense.. if people wanna say it's for #1..

But if Floyd lost.. the winner doesn't automatically get #1.. it all depends..

Ward's beaten people that's beaten Wilder weight wise.. the step to light heavy will be ok for him..

I know that they are both quite skilled, but one is in his first weight class and the other is in his second. We have guys fighting in their fourth or fifth weight classes. Isn't that the definition of pound for pound? If Ward beats Kovalev that sure is impressive and a meaningful fight, but could he do that at Cruiserweight?

When the term pound for pound was invented for Ray Robinson it was because he started at welterweight and nearly won the light heavyweight title. I hate to say it, but if Roman Gonzalez were the same size as Kovalev and Ward he'd probably beat the **** out of them.

Deepest record or most proven is different from pound for pound in my opinion. Danny Garcia has a deep record but I don't consider him pound for pound material.

Yes for sure, barring unusual circumstances like a clear robbery or an injury early on.

Are you sure about that? I thought it had less to do with jumping weight classes than with the desire to acknowledge a non-heavyweight as the best fighter in boxing, as Robinson clearly was.

Anyway I'd rather see the p4p title stay vacant rather than give it to someone just because people feel they have to give it to somebody. The p4p king should clearly deserve it. Drawing up lists of top 10 p4p fighters seems absurd to me.

In a word.. Yes. 2 of the top 5 pfp fighters squaring off. 1 who is quite possibly one of the hardest hitters in the sport, while the other is arguably the best technician in the sport today.

I was under the impression P4P list were designed to rate the best fighter regardless of weightclass

    Yes of course.
The #1 spot for Gonzalez is feeble right now, and this fight crowns a new clear #1.
Except if the fight ends controversial of course
