Povetkin turns 42 this year and recently had to be admitted twice to hospital with COVID-19. Realistically the guy may have a month at best of serious training for the fight. If Whyte can get the W does he deserve any credit?
Every fighter should get credit for every win. For some reason everyone seems to immediately write off official results due to xyz just to hear themselves talk
Credit for overcoming an opponent who stylistically has his number. Even past prime Povektkin is better than most heavies, which says more about the state of heavies today.
If he wins, he avenges his brutal KO loss... of course he gets credit. Just like Joshua deserved credit for beating Ruiz Jr... If Povetkin isn't ready for the fight, it's on him to delay it or pull out all together. That isn't on Whyte.
Whyte needs to just do the job and then these promoters need to put Wilder and Whyte together come on .. The pressers alone will be worth it.. And there will be so much violence in the ring lol
Yes. Even old man povetkin is still world level. But Povetkin is of course well past it so he should only receive moderate credit
Yes, of course Whyte should get major credit. Povetkin is still one of the top 5 HWs in the division with deep proven resume (far better than Wilder) and just coming off KOing a guy with the most impressive win streak in the division at the time. If Whyte beats Povetkin (a big if) Whyte will have best and deepest resume in the division after AJ.
Anyone who beats someone who's just knocked them out deserves credit. Any one who beats someone who is a consensus top 5 in their division deserves credit. I expect this fight to go the way of the first. Whyte has some success but Povetkin cracks his chin and knocks him out. If Whyte proves me wrong, I'll happily credit him.
Yes of course he does. It was a bad knockout so avenging it would deserve credit. Whether Povetkin is 41 or not he's still a top level dangerous fighter that can bang.
He was 40 years old when he won the first fight landing an absolute bomb of a left hand. 8 months prior he had a 12 round tear up with Hunter who everyone likes to laud up. Either way, he's still a very dangerous opponent you'd have to be a daft to think otherwise.
