Might be. Seeing how he looks in the ring and knowing he finds it very hard to get down to 154 (his own words), I can't believe he only rehydrated 4.5lbs. 168 perhaps, but no way he was 158.
That uppercut would've hurt and knocked down anyone. Williams wasn't out cold, he got up, so I'd say it's soft, not glass. Let's see how he reacts to a solid punch from someone else before we condemn him as glass jawed.
J-Rock didn't see the Trout match in its proper context, he went in thinking "well if soft chinned Austin can take his shots...." Not taking into consideration that Trout intelligently fought hyper defensively for the first 6 rounds until he could feel Charlo's punches starting to lose steam, then he let his hands go with a little more confidence, had Williams done the same thing as Trout then maybe he wouldn't have gotten KO'd, but he didn't, he just assumed incorrectly.
Not glass, but not iron by any means either. I initially picked Williams but switched to Charlo after hearing the Charlo's eyesight had been fixed. My eyesight is about the same as Charlo's was, and it's a huge disadvantage in boxing for sure. I still think it gave him that little bit of confidence and accuracy which makes a difference, because he looked better than in any of his previous fights.
I honestly thought that was Trout's best performance since beating Cotto. THAT version of Austin would beat the majority of JMW's right now. I looked at that fight almost as a resurgence for Trout's career. He did a LOT better than I expected him to. That was a quality win for Jermall. Good insight into how that fight unfolded. Trout did look very conservative for the first 6 and utilized a very good defensive technique. Jermall was looking to chop his head off from the opening bell in that match.
Showtime put up bogus weights. Both guys were heavier than 160 at the follow up weigh in early Saturday, with Charlo heavier by a couple pounds. Charlo was likely in the 170s by fight time.
I thought I was the only one to notice that Trout was on point. I thought he could have gotten the nod. That was the best he's looked in my opinion. I thought that last night was the best that I've seen Charlo as well.
I scored it for Trout by a point, it was a great performance, his best since his domination of Cotto.
I thought he showed a much weaker fight IQ than he did chin. That's what let him down, more than any durability issues.
That was a perfectly timed shot by Charlo, and Williams upto that moment was doing very good. He made a minor technical error by not bringing his hands back quicker, and left himself open to the counter. But that's a "button" shot, and he got hit right on the button and that type of shot would put anybody on their ass. GUARANTEED!
He was holding his own in there and was winning on my card, but probably could have been even on rounds going into the 5th depending on who you gave the first round to. But Charlo dipped and got a lot of leverage on that uppercut, and caught Williams in a blind spot because he didn't bring his hands back fast enough and got caught by the 'Tiger' Uppercut. Hopefully he'll work on that flaw in the gym.
The way he gets up and stumble after the first jab knock down was troubling. At that moment I sense that a knock out is waiting to happen, not to mention that charlo looks at least 10 pounds bigger. Don't mean to kick when a man is down, but his chin seems to be weak, almost khan like even.
I agree with the size difference. It was noticeable, J Rock was in the fight skill-wise but he was deffo the smaller man
No glass that I could see but hey I DKSAB Rock took some well placed shots and that upper cut was placed perfectly and would have given most guys s reason to stay down but he grabbed his ball sack and tried to continue...He was also finding some spots to pick at with Charlo and I thought it was about to heat up and then POW!!!
