What would you say about his right hand compared to that of other heavyweight fighters in terms of power, delivery and technique ?
YES! And so does Vitali.................. Both are great fighters who are well on their way to the IBHOF in a few yrs down the road.......... Wlad has more skill and spryness, while Vitali is more durable and tough...... MR.BILL
I understood the question - I just don't think there is anything about Wlad that could be considered ATG. Very, very good - certainly. Excellent - perhaps, at times. ATG - no way.
Ok. I'll respect that reply, but remain curious to see who has all time great right hands. In Wlad's case he has excellent technique, excellent speed, excellent range, and excellent power with the right hand. Few heavies in history could boast better. I think Wlad has one of the best right hands in the history of the divison, and its great.
I don't think he uses it often enough, in truth. I have no axe to grind with him personally, but as a fighter he infuriates me. Someone of his natural ability ought to be knocking out his opponents in the first five rounds without fail. It isn't his fault he has arrived at his peak in a very weak era (barring his brother) and I guess allowances have to be made because of that, in a sense that it is reasonable to assume that he would be capable of hanging in a stronger era, say the 70's or 90's.
Wlad has some of the best tools ever assembled at heavy. The problem is a weak chin and his intelligent, refusal to expose it. He has made a calculated decision to minimize risk with a safety first style. However, he has both an exceptional right and left hand.
Yes he has a great righthand, just as Oliver Mcall has a great chin. He gets serious power and leverage behind it. That doesnt make him an all time great fighter.
Anyone he landed on has been hurt, stunned, knocked down, stopped or knocked out. How many boxers can claim that? His right hand is absolutely one of the best in history... speed, power, accuracy, timing and reach, he's all got it in spades. The right hand that knocked down Chris Byrd in their rematch is one of the best i've ever seen. Watch 2:30: [yt]JW0S0759BTs[/yt]
I think, looking ahead...that both Klitschko bros. are going to the Hall..and let some hater explain why they shouldn't. I think Wlad will have the title for as long as he wants, because he's found his groove, so to speak...you gotta admit he's got a pretty damned effective defense and offense..and I don't believe anyone will get to him, with his brother picking off guys like Arreola, who I like and respect more than Haye, BTW. Arreola would ko Haye, in my opinion, but he'll not make it past Vitali, who'll look good repelling a dangerous guy like Arreola, probably by a tko where he'll mainly bust him up and outlast him. Both Klitschkos are dominant and Hall of Fame bound.
Oh, sorry Chris...the question...YES, Wlad has a very, very good right, and hate him or not, despise his very effective style or not, he has an EXCELLENT right..right up there in Lewis/Louis land though no single shot of his has equalled Marciano's classic Walcott I number, or Max Baer/Ingo type power, but he's more Schmeling-like in it's efficient precision.
Sam Peter took his right well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqIDl-_5HZY Wladimir has a great jab, right hand and a left hook. He doesn't have much of an uppercut (like Lewis did) but he hasn't really needed much more than the basic jab and right hand in the past couple of years.
