The Ring policy is that no 1 vs no 3 can make for the champ anyway.

Well, I'm not going to rag on Wlad out of bitterness.

To his credit, yes, he will the clear number 1 in the division, if this will be a genunie unification. Not quite on the level of undisputed and linear champions of Lewis and pre - Lewis, but as high as he can go until Vitali retires.

I'm not sure exactly what the WBA's line will be here? Do they consider Chag's belt as their regular more prestigious version, and Valuev's as their form of the 'interim' crap? Or the other way around, in which case he will not really have unified anything when he beats the patient?

of course he won't be "the hw champ" as in undisputed etc. he won't even be perceived as being "the man" because his brother is still active. As if beating an inactive hepatitis ridden chagaev would really change anything

THis is the closest thing that we can have to an undisputed champion. With four recognized co-equal belts, emeritus dhamions, champions in recess, super champions, dozens of lesser championships, (WBU, IBC) this is as good as we are going to get.

Sad, but as long as both brothers are active 1 and 2 and refuse to fight each other there can't really be a "champ" in the HW.

I agree, but I also add that it goes beyong this. Valuev is never going to fight ANYONE of quality, and I think we all know this. Even if he did, the WBA would just make the winner a "super champ" and crown someone else. And don't forget that whereas Wladdy has a couple of belts, these organizations love to strip titles at the drop of a hat.

No doubt, but the fact is that beating a 3rd ranked (questionably IMO) HW who is miles worse than number 2 doesn't make a champion.

Nice to see a non-hater post from a Haye fan.

I agree that Wlad will clearly become the man at Heavy with a victory. He will be ring champ. Clearly he wont be the unified champ.

The thread title asking if Wlad will become "THE heavyweight champ" will come down to personal definition. But holding most of the trinkets and the ring belt would have to be a good argument that he is the recognised top of the division.

There is a silver lining for Haye fans. If the Wlad-Haye fight does happen soon after, then Haye will have the chance to win even more trinkets then he does now.

He already is "THE" champion in the eyes of most

The WBC title that VITLAI holds, he won from a guy that WALD already beat decisively years ago. WALD hasn't lost since then. He hasn't lost in 5 years, avenged that loss convincingly, beat the longest standing beltholder in BRYD, won another major title

The WBA long ago lost whatever credibility they had left. The WBC has not been relevant since VITLAI retired the first time.

Sure does. Likewise, Chagaev could become champion as well.
