The word is Toney could be his next opponent... Toney was good, 5-10 years ago, Brewster also was pretty washed up when they fought the rematch, Rahman ? Same story there. I think Wlad is very good but should fight the best of the best. I can live with him facing Arreola or even better haye, but another gloryfull moment against a hasbeen or neverwas is not doing him any good . I am glad he said he would not face Holyfield out of respect.
Isn't David Haye the front runner? and Wlad was going to face Povetkin and Povetkin pulled out and Rahman stepped in. Wlad wanted a brewster rematch way earlier but this was the quickest he could get it. I dont think he'd fight Toney unless Toney has gotten in Wlads head and Wlad wants to kill him.
Reading still seems to be an unknown and not respected art for some people: Does Wlad only pick over-the-top fighters for This content is protected defences?
Who then constitutes the best of the best? If he does beat Haye or Arreola, people will just give the standard reasons (too small, too inexperienced etc.) and say that Wlad was fighting in mismatches again. We can complain about him fighting Rahman, but who was really available that was any better? Haye and Arreola both fought in November, so they weren't ready, and obviously Povetkin was hurt.
Yeah i agree random1 rahman was the best out there at the time with dh and ca both fighting and povetkin injured but there not now so why fight james toney?
Yes. I would fear for Holyfield if he meet Wlad in the ring. The old man would take too many punches, and not know when to call it quits. In a perfect world, Wlad faces either Valuev or Chagaev. Neither guy wants to fight Wlad because they can make easy money vs bogusly ranked alphabet fighters. Povetkin will fight Wlad. It shoudl be a good one. If Haye can win a heavyweight fight vs a top ten guy, I'm all for Wlad giving him a shot too. That leaves us for his next defense. Why not Ruiz?
Ruiz, Toney, Rahman. **** me. Where are the guys on the right side of 35 challenging for titles, or is the division that bad those guys are still considered dangerous? The problem with these young guys building up unbeaten records, is that they don't fight any good fighters to get experience, and also to build a name for themselves and promote themselves as exciting fighters. An easy example is Tua v Ike. both young, dangerous up and coming fighters starting to make a name for themselves. No way would that fight happen in this day and age. But in losing in a fight like that, it made no real difference to Tuas career. In fact, losing a fight like that by such a small margin ( you could easily have scored that fight for Tua) actually helped his career, because the fight itself was so ****ing good. Katsidis keeps getting fights because they're great fights, and he's great to watch. He wins or loses in dramatic fashion. Yes, he's also very good, but you know what I mean. The young heavyweights need to start doing that. Only then will they have both the public recognition AND the experience to do somehting. Rahman is recognised because of the guys he's fought. He's **** now, but when you mention Rahman, people go "oh, he's fought Sanders, beat and lost to Lewis, fought Tua, fought Holyfield, Toney etc". He's fought recognisilbe names. Mention Arreola. "oh, he's fought Chazz Witherspoon, you know" WTF??? How's that going to promote a fight and make a guy recognisable to the rest of the world.
Over-the-top? Before you correct someone, try learning to write English first *******. You mean over-the-Hill.
Yeah... Wlad really sought out the big showdown with Rahman, didn't he? Or... was it that he was scheduled to face the undefeated Povetkin who pulled out with an injury, and was then forced to fight the next highest ranked available contender, which was Rahman?:huh
