Does yesterday prove once again that almost all mma fighters just cant take a meaningful punch?

I've been watching for a long time now and I've never seen a real bonified iron chinned individual. Most mma fighters r great at their craft but they damn near all have weak glass mandibles.

1 punch to the chin or noggin and they're falling into the canvas or tap dancing like Gregory Hines. Jeez.

Agree.... Compared to boxers whom generally were, not in recent years, were the toughest men on earth, by alot... But some are pretty darn tough though.... But there are levels in every endeavor

Boxing gloves are more padded though so you cant really compare?

i thought dan hooker could take a punch but one decent shot from chandler and he had the old spaghetti legs

Please, the only thing that last night proved was that the fighters in MMA are more effective at rendering an opponent helpless and that Conor is capable of graciousness in defeat. Dustin only needed 48 significant strikes and seven and a half minutes to do what Floyd couldn't with 170 punches and nearly 30 minutes. And don't give me that crap about Floyd carrying Conor. Mayweather's history in exhibition bouts suggests he isn't the carrying type.

    You
You really think Floyd trained, prepared and fought from the opening bell at 100% to try and beat/stop him? Not a chance.

The fight speaks for itself. I just wish Floyd had the balls to step into the octagon.

I think padded versus unpadded glove has a lot to do with it. Most also stand pretty squared in fear of takedown and kicks which prevents rolling with punches. That’s my take on it.

They just have weak mandibles. It's clear as day.

It has little to nothing to do with the padding of gloves. They don't train their chins throughly

Yeah these MMA clowns all have glass jaws. When are people ever going to get it into their heads that UFC's top guys will all get their fragile mandibles shattered by utter tomato cans if they dare to get in the ring??

Correct on both points. You look at the start of the Mcgregor fight where Floyd just immediately backs away to the ropes with a high guard and lets McGregor flail away at him like a zombie in a horror movie. Compare that to his bouts against Canelo, manny and JMM where he takes the centre of the ring immediately, counter punches and uses a lot of lateral movement to avoid getting hit shows you exactly what he thought of Mcgregor and his “striking”

Regarding your second point yes I wish Floyd had the balls to step into the octagon too. He ticks both boxes of opponents Mcgregor can actually beat and that is he is old and half his size.

Thats your speculation/opinion, not a fact.

When i remember correct, Ray Mercer and James Toney stated they felt MMA gloves have more KO power then Boxing gloves.

We dont know if this is true or not. The only way to find something out, you have to try it. Thats how science works.
Pro fights in Boxing should been done with MMA gloves, and then we would see which gloves have more KO power.

Make a direct comparation between the same fighters:

Watch this 3 fights of Mighty Mo and Choi Hong Man:

    1) March 2007, 12uz Boxing gloves.
Result: Mo via KO in Round 2.
But already in the first round Mo connected with good shoots, but he could not hurt Hong Man:

(PS: Sorry this is only a clip of the KO punch, i could not find the complete version of the fight)

    2) September 2007, 12uz Boxing gloves.
    Result: Hong Man via decision.
Mo connected with many hard shots but Hong Man took all. He was this time in his best shape, even Mo stated he hit him harder as in the first fight but he took his best shots:

    3) September 2016, MMA gloves in MMA fight.
Result: Mo via TKO in Round 1
You can see Mo could hurt Hong Man already after he landed his first shots. He was not able to do this with 12uz Boxing gloves.

Seeing this side by side, it seems really like MMA gloves do have more KO power.

Mo could only KO Hong Man in the first fight with a full clean shot to his jaw.
In the second fight he could not hurt him once.
In the third fight he already hurt him with the first shots...wearing MMA gloves. He was not able to to this in the first 2 fights when they have worn Boxing gloves.

There are lots of MMA guys with great chins. It's just that the guys making these comments are the MMA equivalent of "boxing fans" that have seen Mayweather and Tyson's fights and that's it.

    Physical superior
The guy gasses out after 10 minutes be that boxing or MMA
Here’s some footage of the physically superior athlete after taking a few leg kicks.

To be fair he looks well rested though, as he should be after his little nap

When people are basically taking bare knuckle padded to protect the fist only punches from the worlds best fighters. as well as brtal kicks and knees to the face.....in that environment a "great chin" is very different to pro boxing standards........and the longevity of said chins is greatly reduced in that furnace.
