i cant believe someone could decline so much in the space of a few years but its happened. No way thats the same kovalev that fought Ward. When he fought ward the first time he had so much confidence and fought like he was undefeated and invincible. since then hes totally changed. I can believe that with some fighters once they lose it can totally damage them mentally.

Floyd fought a completely different version of Canelo, just in the same way that Canelo fought a different version of Kovalev that Ward fought.

 

Canelo didn't walk through Ward's best win.

 

Floyd didn't do a job on Oscar.

He scraped by him in the latter rounds.

Mayweather's legacy doesn't get enhanced everytime he wins.

They fought over 6 years ago at a 152 CW when Canelo was young and naive.

He's now in his late 20's fighting as a LHW.

You're talking about 2 completely different versions of him.

And we have seen Canelo fans wet themselves over beating a "completely different version" of Kovalev.

 

Kovalev is getting weaker with each training camp. All the rest in the world won't help him unless he PEDS like crazy on EPOs, HGH and whatever else Bernard Hopkins was taking.


His decline has been rapid. Look at his face...loose skin, furrows everywhere, crows feet around his eyes. Compared to 3 years ago he looks like death warmed up in a microwave.

That, combined with his alcohol problems, probably a semi damaged liver, and who knows what else on a physiological level and you have a remarkably shot fighter.

 

IDK,i never viewed Ward as some great boxer, hes above decent for this era but ? I saw a few fights and don't get it ? Ward himself claimed he could defeat AJ but never Wilder ? Wards chin is packing glass and one cannot pack glass being undersized in that division. I think ppl are intentionally overlooking Kovalev was not boxing better in those Ward fights either, Canelo is just a better fighter period, to much time and overthinking on it really. It shoukld be apparent fighters like Yard ( COULD have won ) and Canelo are potential bad match ups for Kovalev.

I wouldn't put to much stock in the Floyd fight vs a green Canelo whos made for higher weight classes which makes him more effective.

The best fight is Yarde vs Canelo now. Id like to see that one. I think Betebiev defeats them both.
