Not much in it, but slightly different styles. Dokes often let his hands fly more than Page in the early going and may have punched in combination a bit more i think. The three fastest of 83 were these two and Holmes. Holmes had reknowned speed as well.

Great fight. Weaver had the body of Apollo Creed. And I think that if Dokes had been blessed with great footwork he would of been a HoF type fighter.

Just looked over my '82 tape of Page hammering Tillis in Texas..... Tillis was getting his ass kicked in round 7, but Page closed the show with a right to Tillis' jaw in round 8... Fight over... Angelo Dundee comes into the ring to check on his man Tillis who's on his back......

'82 was rough and hard for both "Page and Tillis."

Page lost a dec. to Berbick in June 1982 and broke his thumb / hand, while on the same card Tillis beat Ernesto Shavers on a decision after being decked in round 9... Tillis was also KO'd later by Thomas in 8 rds or so prior to his challenge to Page in Texas....

Page was hot from the point he KO'd Tillis in Nov. 1982 up until he fizzled against Tim Spoon on HBO in March 1984..... In the middle there Page also scored a good dec. win over Snipes in 1983... Page was peaked there....

Tillis went to clubfighter / journeyman with vast experience by 1985.......

I give Tillis props going 10 rds with Tyson in '86, but no way was Tillis robbed like some fools have suggested..... Tyson won 7-3 over 10 rds easy....

Tillis was in good shape in 1988 against Holy on Showtime, but Holy was too young, spry, good and destined for stardom to lose to Tillis.... Tillis quit on the stool in the middle rds....

Dokes v Weaver - WBA Heavyweight title
Holmes v Witherspoon - WBC Heavyweight title.

A double header which was billed as 'The Crown Affair'

Both fights were good. Probably two of the best that concerned heavyweights in the eighties. And results of both raised some eyebrows. The two defending champions just about kept their titles, imo.

I also got this '86 fight with Snipes being out-classed by Biggs on HBO, too.... This was like part of the "Smith-Spoon 2" fight in New York..

Snipes, like Tillis, after late-83, wasn't really a factor in the division anymore.I always wanted to see him fight Weaver instead of Holmes, that's a winnable fight for him under the right circumstances.

Did you tape Page - Snipes out of interest?

I'm pretty sure dokes said (not long after the rematch) they would have to strip his title before fighting Weaver again.
