Hi dudes, I have recently acquired a VCR to DVD convertor and having tried to find various UK boxing matches from the mid 90's have located a big hole in the market for fans of domestic boxing. If you have domestic boxing from the 90's or early 00's (Sky shows etc) please send it to me. I will convert it to DVD for you and keep a copy for myself. I have nearly 10K fights at the moment and this could be a handy service for ESB users. Anyone interested let me know. :good
Iv got quite a few videos in a box collecting dust, most are not domestic matches but there are a few hidden gems in there.
Let me know what you've got and i'll let you know if I haven't got it already. PM me if you like JC :good
a shame really but I didnt think about converting VHS to DVD at the time I use to have loads of fights and interviews on VHS taped off sky over the years but I gradually threw them all away as DVD's became more established I have no VHS tapes anymore
At the moment I have over 700 tapes/DVDs, and about 500 are tapes from which I've recorded/traded boxing since the early 90's. I have the ability to convert VHS to DVD, however most of my tapes are 4hrs long (fights only, I tend to cut out all the studio chit chat, adverts, etc), so 500+ x 4hrs is just waaay too many man hours I can be fussed with! Would love to do it, as it makes it easier for storage but I just don't have the time to do that many. I've now been recording direct to DVD since 2006, in fact the first show I ever recorded on DVD was Moore-Macklin, and anything since then I've put on DVD (and it makes a huge difference to the storage space). In the early 90's I used to get all the American and foreign fights from an awesome trader called Paul Petrou. He had everything you could imagine and more, and would cram a 4hr VHS tape with as many fights as possible (£12 a tape, and get 1 free when you buy so many etc) - and any fights of your choosing. This is why I'm not too keen on the latest trend for "Career Sets". It means if I want a particular fight I have to shell out for a whole set when I may already have 95% of the fights on there. I had to do this last year when I wanted the Hopkins-Glen Johnson fight. I had almost all the other fights in the career set except that one, but couldn't locate it individually. The fight dealers in the early days were awesome with their versatility, and cheap prices too. I used to save up my pocket money and buy a batch at a time, and I have many fond memories of the postman turning up with a package of boxing tapes in the morning, and then suddenly developing a "stomach ache", and being unable to go to school... had to spend the day in bed instead... watching boxing
Jeff i asked my German teacher to do it afew weeks ago, is you done this then i would have got you to do them
i just recently put all my old vhs from the 90's onto dvd, no need for a converter better off just hooking up a vcr to a dvd recorder and buy a decent scart lead for connecting the 2 of them
Dont own either but the father in-law does. Might give it a go cheers:good Would have to make sure he's out though. The old ****er could talk a glass eye to sleep on how he single handedly defeated the Kenyan mau mau in th 50's:nut
I've also been meaning to do this but the technology frightens me a bit... I normally tape on LP on 4 hr tapes. How many hours can I get on a normal blank disc and can someone explain about the old R- and R+????
Been wanting to transfer my own fights to DVD for yrs mate. Also got a few of the old fight night and screensports matchroom bills on tape.Got a lot of early Benn and Hoko suff too. Will have to route them out of the loft.:good
i have about 500 to 600 tapes from mid 80`s to mid 90`s mostly boxing problem is when i got a divorce nine years ago now ,and got my tapes back bloody cow had ripped up my books that had tapes content written in and have never got round to going through them to write it all down again.so when i get some spare cash will have to get a dvd video combo as well.
