i've got loads of vhs tapes still. started collecting in 99. first dvd's i started recording on was 2006. calzaghe-lacy was the first for me. :bbb youtube and the torrent sites have nearly killed off the fight trader. :-(
Yeah, it's quite sad really. Youtube etc are great, but nowhere near as good as the traders were. I know Mr Petrou seemed to have about 25 versions of every single fight you could imagine (UK, US, Japanese etc!), and not just the well known stuff but all the obscure stuff too. I used to spend hours and hours looking through his list (which weighed like a telephone directory, and that isn't an exaggeration). I don't tend to buy that much now, only on rare occasions. But it seems now with the modern traders you either have to purchase whole sets or pay per fight. I used to just send a big list of fights I wanted, payment for X amount of tapes and they would just get as many fights as possible on there. I miss those days. I don't really like buying career sets that much because I usually have a lot of the fights already and it's pretty crap having to fork out between £20-£40 just for one or two fights that I want in particular. I had to do this to get hold of copies of Hopkins-Johnson and Mayweather-Judah, where as back in the 90's I could get both these fights and many others of my choosing on one particular VHS tape. Also the great thing about Paul Petrou was it wasn't just fights he had, he had absolutely loads of documentaries, press conferences, tv shows with boxers appearing, loads and loads of obscure and rare stuff ( I remember he had the Duran-Benn exhibiton for example). I actually got some footage from him of De La Hoya sparring Chavez (years before they fought), which was cool to see.
I've got 10,000 mutha ****in fights. Serious homies. I've got dvd's coming out of my a$$ .... but i've never bothered putting an ad anywhere or anything. Got loads of spares and stuff but just seems too much hard work to get business going.
Yeah I know what you mean, I don't know the exact number of fights I have but I calculated it to around 3000 hours worth (thats hours not number of fights), and could probably set up trade, just can't be arsed with the hassle. I have recorded about 95% of all fights broadcast on BBC, ITV, Sky, Eurosport, Setanta etc since around 1993 and also have a shedload of foreign stuff (HBO/Showtime/etc) I bought of various traders over the years.
