I was thinking after the Fury fight about who the current crop of domestic heavyweight prospects were out there and one thing cam out was that Frank Maloney owns most of them. Here is a list of what i think are the most upand coming best crop of heavies and their promoters Mick Hennessy Has Tyson Fury Ricky Hatton Has Richard Towers Frank Warren has Sam Sexton & Derek Chisora (Martin Rogan is pastit now i think) Frank Maloney has Tom Dallas, John Mcdermott, Larry Olubamiwo Of course there are others out there but i am talking about best up and coming prospects. Its weird how some of the promoters only have one big heavyweight on their roster like Hatton and Hennessy as they are normally the best sellers for shows so am suprised they are not after more talent. What i would do if i was Maloney is out of the 3 listed the perfect fight for both fighters and Maloney would be Olubamiwo vs Mcdermott next. Both wrong side of 30, Larry getting quite highly ranked now, and Mcdermott still fairly ranked so i would say to them both, you are fighting for your careers. then Frank could concentrate on the winner. Of course Sam Sexton and Chisora is being talked about and it is natural for British champ to face Commenwelth Champ but how willing is Frank Warrento pit both his fighters together. If they did fight the winner would have a very high ranking and Frank could concentrate all his efforts building the winner up. Finally do you think the relevant heavies i have spoke of are with the best promoters? Do you think Haye Promotions should take one of them, Fury would be good for their fights and of course Haye would have a 6ft 8 sparring partner ;-) Would love to know your thoughts Cheers
I think that we'll see Sexton vs Chisora pretty soon. Olu would hurt mcDermott and finish him within 5 I reck
Sexton vs Chisora II is a logical fight to make for the British title. Price vs Oluwabimo/McDermott should be next. The lad is about 27 and is facing opponents that wouldn't beat a decent journeyman like Tony Booth.
Larry can't do 5 at full tilt...he was puffing like the Flying Scotsman after half a round last night...**** sakes, Peret beat him on work rate. Larry seems like a nice bloke but is just one big ball of steroids waiting to gas
Yeah I agree mate but I genuinely think he'd put mcdermott away at the respective point of their careers
Booth would have beaten every one of Prices opponents, and in decent style. I've got a feeling that Prices promoter doesn't trust his chin
Maybe now, John looked done in last night...whether the heat got to him I don't know but he looked completely lethargic and without his trademark stamina. Anyone with a decent engine is likely to beat Larry IMO
Maybe..... it didn't look great when he was tagged in the Olympic semi final. I just recall the press conference when Maloney was talking about them all getting to world titles and making the fights down the line - it's that attitude that is causing our domestic scene to die on it's feet. Especially when it's not a given that any of them can conquer at domestic level for a variety of reasons. I'd stick Price in, sink or swim. Same with Jeffries - they've not looked impressive at all so far, maybe it's a lack of motivation, complacency..... shove them in a much harder fight and you'll see what they have. Fury was chucked in with McDermott, arguably lost first time..... but gained a lot more than five consecutive first round stoppages over imports. David Haye fought Tony Booth on his pro debut - if someone is that much of a prospect..... they need to be matched in the same manner.
Thats what I meant mate. That first knock down last night proves our point. I don't think those punches could have knocked my son out of his temporary sitting position (that he can barely hold himself )
Olu is heavy handed but has poor stamina, is 34(?) years old and very crude. Given the opposition in the domestic HW division his power may be enough to get him a British title but I doubt it.
