But when did Kelly fight for a vacant world title, win it and then lose it first defence, as per the question raised by the thread originator?

No disrespect to Robbie peden because nothing came easy in his career but he won a vacant title and attempted to unify and came short. That's not the best example because he fought an ATG

 

Jackson Asiku was a IBO champion who went overseas and got spanked never to be heard of again didn't he?

 

Robbie wasn't domestic level he beat Nate Campbell. Well above domestic level.
