Does it matter if you are left or right eye dominant when fighting a Southpaw? Most people are right eye dominant. So against an Orthodox fighter their dominant eye would be on the side of their opponents jab. But against a Southpaw that would be the opposite. Maybe it’s just that fraction of a second different. But still enough to effect the fight? Just a thought because so many fighters apparently have issues with fighting Southpaws.
You don't avoid straights or jabs by reading the punch and in theory it should not be telegraphed. The whole point in a straight punch is you can't see it coming. You avoid these punches with your feet which isn't affected by your dominant eye. The main factor is practice. Southpaws will have seen more orthodox and orthodox less southpaws. Southpaws at a high level aren't going to be running into right hands because the ones that do have been filtered out by then. More orthodox fighters who are vulnerable to the left hand won't have been filtered out. It's statistics Basically the whole of boxing is about feet and positioning. The hands are the bullets but the feet are the gun.
