Having watched a few of their fights I truly believe Dominic Breazeale is a better fighter than Charles Martin. Against Mansour, Breazeale got off the canvas to go on to make Mansour quit. Mansour is a good fighter and underrated despite his age as he hasn't got alot of miles on the clock. Charles Martin has one decent win in Glazkov and fought on the back foot and didn't really show alot of killer instinct and only won the fight due to a freak injury suffered by Glazkov. Having reviewed Breazeale's fight against Fred Kassi who is a decent gatekeeper it was a good little fight and Breazeale was coming foward and throwing alot of punches. I'm not saying Breazeale beats Joshua don't get me wrong, I think Joshua wins this fight, but I have a sneaky feeling this fight could be closer of a fight to the Joshua-Whyte fight than the farce that was Charles Martin vs Joshua. Thoughts?
I regret that Breazeale vs Martin got cancelled, they were supposed to fight in late December. Instead Martin went for the title which was a joke in the first place and Breazeale fought Mansour. To me it was a 50/50, they seemed to be on pretty much the same level. Now we know more about DB - he had it going tough with Kassi (IMO he lost that one), he was losing every round against Mansour before he wasn't able to continue... His defence is almost non-existent. I don't think Joshua will have a problem with him. He is a decent puncher, so maybe there will be a moment like the 2 round of AJ vs Whyte, but that's about it. This shouldn't go past 4-5 rounds. Martin? Well I don't know anything about this guy. He was untested when he went to fight Glazkov and this fight didn't change that. He got beaten up badly by Joshua, but where does this place him in HW ranks? I have no clue to be honest...
Dominic Breazeale is better than Martin simply because as Joshua pointed out at least Breazeale is a professional meaning in the way he act, talk and dress, etc. And that has to count for something. And as Joshua also pointed out it's all about how smart you are and how hard you work. Breazeale easily has Martin beat on those two points. Having said all of that he is no match for Joshua.
I think Breazeale is not much better than Martin. Martin has more technical flaws but Breazeale is far from perfect technique wise either. He has no jab, is flat footed, squares up etc. But he did show heart against Mansour, while I think he is just as over matched as Martin was, he won't fold like Martin did, AJ will have to keep him down unlike Martin.
He has a load of flaws but has size and swings pretty decent. If he's in career shape and lands a bomb Femi could be toast as that chin has serious issues. Whyte should really have knocked him over.
