Purse bids for the promotion of Rob Norton's next Commonwealth cruiserweight title defence against Australia's Dominic Vea have been won by the challengers.
Core Street Promotions intend to stage the match at Blacktown RSL Club in New South Wales on May 8th.
The Stourbridge man - who is also the British champ - will be on about 50p a mile. The winning purse bid was £20,001.

I will definetly be at the fight.....Vea actually worked at same place as i until he took redundancy to pursue his boxing career seriously about 6months ago...

The RSL cant really hold much people..I know hes a local but but surely somewhere alittle bigger would be better.

Hussien v Sting was 2000 Rock.

Can remember Kelly v Soliman - but turns out that was 1997.

Perhaps 2000 is the most recent?

So glad to hear the commonwealth title is being fought again here again. It was the ultimate for guys in my day. I was lucky enough to hold the jnr welter title in 1978. Times have changed as now guys who cant win aussie titles can bring a thai over and win a regional title. I dont blame fighters today doing this.Who would want to fight good fighters when you could bring in a Thai kickboxer.

Kind of suprised at your last sentence Balmain. Whats the point in having a trophy cabinet full of pretty belts that mean about as much as the oponent??

Commonwealth Title over any purchased belt anyday.

Agree with you wholeheartedly regards the Comm title.

Surprised at your last comment, particular from a guy who took 'em all on and certainly didn't appear to favour the easy road himself.

Flamengo boxers today can find a vacant title then bring a thai over. All of a sudden they have their names in the world ratings. Heath Ellis is one of the best belt collectors Australia has produced. Hes not on his own. Sydney has Peter Mitreski. Both these guys amongst others cant win Australian titles let alone Commonwealth. But that is the way boxing is today. Glad Dominic Vea has the heart to step up and test his ability. i wish him the very best of luck.

Hopefully Heath goes a long way, but you are 100% correct. Some of the opponents he's fought for titles have had absolutely dismal recent records, if not entire career records.

Nothing against Shannon McMahon, who has won an Aussie title (albeit a vacant one), but how did he get the gig against Soliman for a world title? He's coming off 2 losses too!

As you said regards Vea, and good luck to him.

Hello bushboy. Please pass on my regards to Billy and Mario. I have so many wonderful memories of my boxing days in Griffith. Both these guys were such a big part of it. Hope boxing is alive and well at the pcyc.
