Vea back for swing at title by Nikolaos Stavrou - 17 March 2010. Mt Druit Satandard newspaper BEFORE his guaranteed shot at the Commonwealth Cruiserweight champion title on July 1, Dominic Vea must first focus on his next opponent. On Thursday, April 8, the Mt Druitt-trained boxer will defend his interim World Boxing Organisation (WBO) oriental title and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) title against Anthony McCracken at Star City Casino. It will be his first fight in nine months after recovering from injury (including cataract surgery). Vea said he was pumped to finally have a shot at the Commonwealth title and looked forward to his return to the ring. Its been like a miracle. Ive come out of it (fine), Vea said of his surgery late last year. I was like looking down a tunnel ... and instead of a train coming at me, (now) its been daylight. So Im just lucky to be back in it. I didnt think it would be so early. My fitness has been excellent. Now I just need a bit of sparring, just getting sharp again. Vea will start sparring with IBO cruiserweight world title holder Danny Green, who is preparing to fight Manny Siaca on April 14, next week. McCracken will be looking for revenge against Vea after being knocked out in the seventh round in their first meeting last July. The last fight we had was tough. Hell be training hard (for this one) and obviously thinks he can win, Vea said. He was confident that despite coming back from injury, he could beat his Wagga Wagga rival.Vea said despite his schedule becoming busy, he would soon resume training Mt Druitt youths. Now we know what to expect we can make it a bit more organised and make it more enjoyable for the kids, he said. Its good for us to see the kids progress along. After five or six weeks we could actually see them getting better ... the shyness is gone and (they were) enjoying it.
Yeah the first fight was good..both guys very tough but Vea was just that much better....he should win this one again and get his shot at the comm title :good I would love to be a fly on the wall watching Green and Vea sparring :yep
Their first fight was excellent, They pushed each other hard but the body shots were just too telling in the end. Cant wait to watch them go round again
Tend to Agree , A strong Commonwealth title holder used to be in with a very good chance when fighting for a Genuine World title Flamen , Balmain , Just realised who you were after tracking you down on Boxrec , Nice career mate you should be very proud of yourself . :good
Well let's hope Mundine's fan boy's don't scare him off with the utter bollocks they talk aye Teke Old son , :good P.s Teke lets hope we can see another Aussie / Taff fight between your boy and Enzo Macca for this title towards the end of the year , Who could forget the Trev Thornberry v Eddie Avoth buzz all those years ago . lol Now that DOES make me feel old ...
The earlier Vea v McCracken bout was a terrific contest and we were lucky to see it FTA on the now defunct Channel ONE boxing show. McCracken has got great persistance and serious balls! They're the attributes that kept him in it for so long the last time these two met. Hope it's another ripper, but hard to see McCracken being able to win on guts alone IMO.
How many blokes in Aus have heard of Rob Norton? I had to look him up on youtube (he is horrible to watch BTW). I don't think this would be a massive drawcard for a big fight night. I am looking forward to Vea's rematch with McCracken at Star City first anyway...
