Dominick Guinn has made the first step to turning his ailing career around, by stopping J F Bergeron last night.. He is turning over a new leaf and vowed to keep things simple, let his hands go more , keep to a small entourage amd work tight knit with new trainer James Johnson.. Dominick is working on step by step regrouping his confidence , aiming at a return to some lucrative HBO fights in the near future.. I hope he proves his worth , i love Guinn and have always tried to keep faith in him.. Since the win over Duncan Dokiwari in Buffallo NY he seemed to steadily lose his footing with a draw against Friday Ahunanya, and a loss to some very credulous opposition , He honestly can return in my opinion. It always seemed like a mental block in my eyes.. What does everyone else think..?
I think he looked good because he was fighting JP Bergeron. I don't see this fight as a resurrection of his career. He has a good chin and decent power however so he could pull off a shocker at some point, I just can't imagine him outpointing any of the top guys right now.
It's like the friend who constantly lets you down, and then seems sincere one day, and you think he/she's changed, but then they go back to letting you down.
I understand what you all saying, he has let me down a lot in the past with poor showings , but i do hope he does actually put things together now, and prove us all wrong.. There is something in him i do like , I think he wants to impress too much.......... Jean Bergeron is not a bad scalp to start with.. God bless..
This is only like the 4th time he has turned over a new leaf. When he racks up a string of victories against live bodies I might start caring. As of now he is an irrelevant fighter in the HW division
Step by step is the way. Guinn bombed out the often-tricky Zuri Lawrence in 2 rounds last year as well, before then looking terrible in losses to Chambers and Hawkins. People will need to see more from Dominick before they can start backing him again. But at least this is a first step.
Thanks for the backup DamonD , i want to have solid faith, but fear i may be in denial as regards Dominicks future.. and Mike Grant too i suppose....
Bergeron is a very capable fighter. Skilled, rangy, slick--it's a good k.o. for Guinn. It also means nothing if he doesn't follow it up with another good win. I don't think he ever gets back in title contention, but could be a guy who knocks on the top 10 if he stays serious and LETS HIS HANDS MOVE in fights. How about a rematch with your guy Friday, Bigcat?
mmmmmmmmmmmm... ha ha ha .. mmmmmmmmmmm.. What makes you think i'd do such a thing ?? ha ha ha ha !!!! Watch this space...
Bergeron is hardly a test for any fighter. Guinn seems to have some descent skills but always lacks pure motivation.
It is hard for me to trust Guinn. He has a good skill set, good chin, and a decent punch, but he is just too inconsistent, and to be a top fighter you need to be consistent. I simply cannot see Guinn becoming a championship caliber fighter, but, as DamonD said, it wouldn't surprise me if he sparked out a guy here or there.
One of the oddest combination of talent and laziness I've seen in boxing. He might have more natural talent than almost anyone in the heavyweight division but this guy can completely disappear in fights. I'm just not sure that he has the mental makeup to ever deal with the bigtime.
